Any decent sub-£100 tablets for my technophobe mum?

I want to get a basic cheap tablet for her to do some basic stuff like browse the web and play some simple games. I think it would be useful for her in the long run. But it might end up just gathering dust if she doesn't bother using it much, so I'm not looking to invest more than £100.

Not sure if the offer is still valid, but you get a free kindle fire hd, with a years sub to daily mail.

120 for daily papers 7 days a week plus free tablet.

Rather just pay for a tablet than have that subscription

Had one....didn't enjoy being tied down exclusively to Amazon World. Returned it and got a refund.

Amazon are selling Chinese 7 inch tablets for £30. There are plenty of videos on Youtube showing their unboxing, performance reviews and their actual manufacture in China

Well, I would say that is a more complicated price point to suggest a tab ! I would say you can get the tab which only supports wifi network at this price point i.e. you can put sim card over the tab. I would say try expanding your budget a a little more say £165-£170 then I guess you can get a good one which is going to suit all your needs.

This really is a no brainer for your mother. It will do all she requires (i.e. basic operations)
Pointless spending more cash, and if it does end up gathering dust as you mentioned your outlay was small

One important question.

How old is your mum? Mine decided about a year back that she wanted a laptop for email and web browsing, for that work a tablet was perfect.

We called into a store, and she tried the keyboard on a few Android tablets. She found everything just too small on 7 and 8" tablets. 10" seemed just about right.

So size can be important. Devices like the Hudl are cracking little tablets, but they may just be too small for some people to use.

mid 50s

yeah good point about the screen size, it can be slightly daunting, are there any cheap 10 inch tablets around?

edit: just looking around on amazon, I'm surprised that there are many sub-£100 10 inch tablets, they seem cheaper than the 7 inch ones, strange as I would've thought the larger screen would make it cost more

Be very careful about buying a no name tablet from Amazon or Ebay, as they are cheaper for a reason.Battery life on the cheaper tablets can be very poor.

Nook HD+ 9" from CEX every day of the week. A grade so 'as new' condition with 12 months warranty. 16gb £88, 32gb £92. Beautiful HD screen.

Agree with previous poster, avoid 7" tablets as they are useless for surfing/watching movies.
