I have too many rants about this show.
As a dancer myself it is a shame to see what used to be a show that showcased the discipline of dance in the best way possible for celebs to learn the dances and the audience to see both a dance and the work that goes into it.
Now that is all gone.
The training VT's are long gone and are replaced by either comedy ones or stupid things they do that could tie in with their song. I miss the truth of the VT's of the practise room and to see them struggle or have fun with a dance.
The extra dancers are awful. It's filler and ruins the relationship between the couples and distracts from the main focus.
It's far too contrived now, it just feels fake, the extra dancers, all the extras, the music that doesn't go and no dancer would ever use. I mean Zorba the greek for an Argentine tango?
The standing ovations used to be for wow and stand out performances, there was maybe one a series, when something was truly amazing, now it's every dance every week.
The judges no longer give a proper critique, everything is always amazing and out of this world, even average dances. Take Frankie, who I like and think is a good dancer, her feet were so heavy and leaden, yet not one judge said it, why? They must see it!
Sunetra has had some shockers and her feet have been so awful, she picks them up, especially in her new yorkers and some things she has done have been technically awful, yet the judges have not said anything!
I remember years back Carole Smiley did an American smooth and was torn to bits by every judge, if she was to do it in this series she would be praised and awarded nines most likely!
Even last year Len was harsh on Natalie for her AS, but this year every dance has lacked most of the actual dance they were doing and had lots of 'faffing around'.
Phew, rant over, i just hate to see what the man who came from DWTS has done to the show and it's all for the worse and most people seem to agree, yet it keeps getting worse. They need to strip it back a bit and make it more about the actual dance they are doing and not trying to appeal to the lowest common denominator, they are underestimating their audience.
