I stand corrected.
To be fair I have always kind of loved Mikhail, but as non ballet fan never quite followed much.

This is quite fun too.

I could see Helen and Alijaz doing a showdance to this.

Oh yes, any time. Mikhail was not only the best male ballet dancer I have ever seen (sorry Carlos - I do love you too) but is also an extraordinary force in ballet and contemporary, a fantastic choreographer and all round good man.

Garcia is sex on a stick.

One of my favourite scenes in any film EVAH in the entire history of films.

I've actually seen Baryshnikov live on stage 3 times - in 92 and 93 at Sadler's Wells with his White Oak Dance Project, and then in about 2000 in a solo show at the Barbican. He was spell-binding. I have a big framed black and white poster of him, in a bare-chest pose from La Jeune Homme et la Mort, on my bedroom wall *sigh*

Oddly enough that is probably the only routine of his I have actually detested!

So you think MB couldn't jive. Judging from THIS I think he'd slay a swing/balboa type jive!

I have only seen him live once but, like you, I was aware of his White Oak project and his work over the years. He is amazing and one of the most beautiful dancers I have ever seen.

But it's hard to convey in words what it's like to actually see him dance live. A moment lost in time, even if embedded in our memories.

You have to have been there.

Which is why I love live dance/iopera/theatre...even a simulcast/recording doesn't do that 'moment' justice.

Growing up in a small island in the mediterranean didnt get to see him live, though I believe he performed at least once but prices were prohibitive for a student like me.
My sister though invited me to see Joaquin Cortes. I know its not the same, but oh man, he is amazing live.

I know it's not the same, but I've adored this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TygmMPbwfjA for years. Many a Saturday afternoon was spent trying to recreate - was told off big time for attempting the beam section on the settee.

True, but his hissy fits, messy love affairs and '5-year in a temper tantrum' ways could create a PR disaster He has had his day.

I'd haul in Daniel Navarro - less flash, more true flamenco

He was fabulous. Shame his life caught up with him. He did change the course of flamenco though, from a male dancer point of view. I like Daniel Navarro now. I've posted a clip

Perhaps it will be instrumental like "Telephone" was for Katie and Anton?

He certainly is. I feel incredibly lucky to have seen him live.

I completely agree. I was walking on air when I came out of the theatres after seeing him.

I didn't actually get interested in dance/musicals until I was in my early twenties when a flat-mate of mine got me into it (it was her suggestion that we went to see White Nights). In hindsight, I would have loved to have had ballet lessons when I was a child, I think I would have loved it, but I didn't grow up in that kind of family sadly.

Absolutely. I danced to a live tango orchestra in London on Sunday. They had flown in from BA to play just one night. Dancing AT to their music was an experience I will never forget.

There's a link on the Week 4 dances that gives a version they could use, and sounds far more suitable
