Anyone else think eastenders has been a little slow recently? It seems as though there have been a lot more filler scenes to drag the storylines out with a lot less characters being used per episode, which doesn't contribute to the community feel as much.
Hopefully with Stacey's return, the fire and Linda's rape, things will pick up again.

Welcome Dan. Yes that describes things perfectly. I'm expecting the next 4 months to be jam packed.

Hey Dan I definitely agree, the last month in particular has been really dull IMO, with a couple of exceptions - Cindy's labour episode being a personal highlight. Though as you say, it looks like we're in for an excellent Autumn leading into the 30th anniversary.

I don't think it's been particularly slow at all. Friday's episode had basically three couples split up...Lola & Peter, Ian & Denise and (sort of) Mick & Linda. There are lots of storylines bubbling along nicely- Carol's cancer, Charlie/Dot, Sharon's revenge, Lucy's murder, Ian/Mick prostitute, Linda/Dean and a few others.

I think that it's been slow due to the fact that they don't have much audiences during the summer months, and they want people to watch, so I believe once people are back from their holidays and whatever, they will start wowing us again. I've notice this every summer. It'll pick up I reckon.

And before anyone says it, I know that Enders has been slow over the last few years under Lorraine Newman, but I think under DTC it will rock this Autumn with many secrets coming out. I personally can't wait, but that's my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own of course.

I don't think of the Summer months as being slow, more like they are building the stories and setting the stage for what should be a phenomenal Autumn and Winter.

I agree, although it has taken its toll, for example I purchased Inside Soap last week and next to nothing interested me so I didn't bother reading it in the end.

The first few months of the year were pretty fast paced but then it slowed down to the point that it ground to a halt. It does look like it's picking up from tomorrow onwards. There's certainly a lot that I'm looking forward to, starting with Stacey's return.

Welcome BTW.

Yeah you guys are right, it's probably to do with it being summer and they're slowing down the shock factor to focus more on character development until the blockbuster storylines start again.
Thanks for the welcome guys

EastEnders has been awful this summer, a couple of good episodes, but plenty of bad ones! Hardly any drama, or gritty performances! However, Friday nights was one of the best episodes this summer! I think the autumn will be fantastic, they've probably had a slow summer so they don't burn themselves out! I do hope it's a very good autumn though, involving many great characters! It should be really good! Hopefully the viewing figures will rise! I hope they advertise some of their storylines! And do loads of big weeks! We have some brilliant stuff coming up by the sounds of it!

I think this hits the nail on the head perfectly.

If it was dramatic storyline to dramatic storyline, people would be complaining that it came out of nowhere and how unrealistic, followed up with no aftermath. Least this way the foundations are being set, the audience can see where it is going (or least have fun speculating where) before it airs.

I totally agree. I've enjoyed these last few months of EE more than the whole of last year put together! )

So have I, but I know Dominic-Treadwell Collins is capable of more. However, I do agree it is important to set foundations for future storylines. Also, the aftermath is just as, if not more important than the start of the storyline/stunt.
