A serious injury could/would prevent them from coaching in the future.

They'll do well to make it to the end of this series the way it's going let alone another one! watching it last night it was very much looking like a show on its last legs, this review will just end up with them hitting the format on the head.

If the weekly format was to give the contestants more training time that's actually caused more harm than good it's just multiplied the chances of them injuring themselves by 6! More jumps, more training, bigger jumps as you get better, bigger risks of injury especially as they'll get tired and sore doing it for weeks.

i think that there must be stringent safety measures in place (Health & Safety, Risk Assessment etc) but even so accidents can still happen.

As previous posters have said the total lack of expertise on that slide/skate/run or whatever it was called was so evident. Running, sliding, falling, waiting for others to catch up - there was no sense of competition and it was all a bit lame>

I loved the final ski jump last year, but this year the jump into the airbag nonsense is a tad pathetic.

The participants surely had the dangers, level of fitness and so on pointed out to them before they signed up to the show.

You've raised a very valid point over the nightly series. Because it was so fast yes things were more limited and most opted for that tiny little jump. I just wonder what happens if a few more get injured this week. Its making the entire point of people leaving look crazy. Will they be forced to bring people like that Towie guy back?

At the rate they're taking Zelebs out, they'll be down to none left within a few episodes.

Unless they keep bringing back ones from other years.

Scrap it. It seems to mainly appeal to those who want to see people smash themselves up anyway. The concept isn't bad (even if it is badly executed), but the danger element is ridiculous. We can see celebs compete without all this other nonsense.

And anything involving Heather Mills should be killed with fire.

That is a bt of a misleading statement. They weren't killed on the show but in a tragic accident before taking part in the show. There is a big difference.

I completely disagree. If H&S was stringent (well too stringent like it is in most walks of life now) this programme wouldnt exist. I'm certain if you were to specialise in one of these sports from scratch you wouldn't get the (literally) crash course these z-listers are put through.

The skeleton bob they got up to speeds beyond 60mph on their very first run ever, when the skeleton thing they lay on is incredibly heavy and being hit by it (or just crashing at that speed full stop) can cause serious injury. And I cant believe for 5 minutes people are usually allowed to go ski jumping before they can even ski, one clip of training last night showed someone land a jump then go careering off the hill on one ski - is this what happened to Beth tweddle also?

And as for allowing Tina to do a ski jump whilst 2 people were standing on the landing slope!

Wonder what insurance company was prepared to insure the contestants on such a high risk of a payout? And if any company would in the future

The worst injury is having to wait another week to see another useless celebrity get injured.. it`s absolute torture. A show every night would have been far better

The ratings are dropping like a stone, 400,000 less than week one, which was half a million fewer than last year. Heather Mills as the stand-in instead of Gemma Merna sums this show up well. Every decision they have made this year has been a catastrophe compared to series 2014 and 2015.

Channel 4, please cancel it now, no more shows, save some reputation because a turkey like this is damaging to the channel overall.

It's a dumb, dangerous show, and anyone who agrees to participate in it must be insane.

Rather than these dangerous "competitions" with amateur celebrities - I would much like them to create a series in which they follow a few Olympian hopefuls behind the scenes on one of the seasonal competition tours - such as Laura Deas. Pad that out with information on other hopefuls, information on the competition, the slopes etc etc. Also look at the bob-sleigh team etc

Large amounts of money can override some people's sense of sanity.

I predict 'The Jump' will now go the same way as 'The Games', which C4 had to drop because a spate of injuries made them unable to obtain insurance for the show.

I assume the problem with that may be a rights issue with the races.

I have never watched "the jump" but picked up the story from the BBC website.

Looking at the dailymail article which contains clips of how some sustained an elbow and shoulder injury - it looked pretty innocuous.

One was because someone was on the ski slope when another did a little jump but fell over trying to avoid the person already on the ski slope.

The other was Rebecca Adlington jumping into a huge air bag and not tucking her arms in (bracing herself) on landing into it.

Eddie "the Eagle" is suggesting a lackadaisical approach by some of the contestants is contributing to the injuries plus perhaps the organisers losing focus during the training runs (ensuring slopes are cleared before someone jumps on the training miniature slopes).

Unfortunately, it seems that the most serious injuries are being suffered by those that are the least 'lackadaisical'. Rebecca, Beth and linford would all be well aware of the need to follow instructions, to ensure that all muscles are properly warmed up, to not mess or fool around in potentially dangerous situations, etc., etc. Perhaps it is their very fitness means that they are able to jump higher or longer, etc., and thus put themselves in greater danger. The ones that mess around and cling to the sides seem to escape relatively unscathed. It seems that some are being asked to do too much too quickly e.g Rebecca's injury may be simply because of inexperience in that in real life she would have spent more time learning exactly how to complete the manoeuvre before being allowed to attempt the jumps,etc. IMO the blame solely lies with the producers with the pressure to put on a show with a sense of as much danger as possible

What Davina called "Routine back surgery" turns out to be emergency surgery to fuse vertebrae in an attempt to save the spine of Beth Tweddle after breaking her neck and being almost completely paralysed.

She has been critically injured and her injury is a very serious and severe one indeed. The possibility of life in a wheelchair if things don't go right. A broken neck and major loss of feeling. Aside from being killed it doesn't get much worse does it. The show is an appalling mess of nothingness and waffling filler and no serious competing worth the name, so on that basis alone it should not see another edition. These injuries and now the very significant nature of the Tweddle one should absolutely seal the decision that this years The Jump is not fit for purpose and be concluded with immediate effect, not try to limp on in a totally discredited manner.

It seems this is what happens when you have a show sponsored by Eddie The Eagle Edwards! His sponsorship of the show is rather bizarre in itself, does anybody else think the same? Normally sponsorship of this kind would involve a significant financial input from a large company, not an individual and I doubt Eddie Edwards has huge funds at his disposal. All very strange if you ask me.

He doesn't sponsor it. The studio/distributors which have produced the film about him do.

Clearly the show is aimed at the mass-market z-list gawpers...maybe a show like that would be more useful if it took a retired sportsperson, or even a *celeb* and tried to get them up to scratch in another sport entirely; say within 6 months? Maybe even sports where being a bit older is no handicap?
So Beth Tweddle - why not see if she can event? Rebecca Adlington..curl?? With both there's a chance of injury (even in the case of eventing, serious injury) but the chances of breaking your neck are a lot lower.

Davina will tweet about "harshing her mellow" no doubt if the negative headlines carry on, but the Eagle makes a very valid point. If they have entrants who really aren't putting in the training then clearly putting them on the jump is going to be a disaster.

Its basically confirming what others have said here this year a lot of them are only there for the pay cheque.

cant see it being cancelled but I can see them only using the Air jump if the lack of training is seen as a major factor.
