Who are they going to rope in as a replacement now? Caught a bit of This morning suggesting they'd just bring back that Arg person who got eliminated the other day. Kinda makes a mockery of the whole format if they have to start doing that just to keep up contestant numbers.

Is that 4 quitters due to being injured in a series? We're gonna be left with Davina at this point

It's hardly surprising that there are so many injuries. When they were advertising this show they were dropping celebs onto the cars of hapless French tourists so that should have told us all just what the H&S was like :P

I don't know about that. Last man (person?) standing has a nice ring about it. Before the era of Health and Safety they used to have gladiator battles and lions versus Christians and stuff.

Unfortunately, it seems that the most serious injuries are being suffered by those that are the least 'lackadaisical'. Rebecca, Beth and linford would all be well aware of the need to follow instructions, to ensure that all muscles are properly warmed up, to not mess or fool around in potentially dangerous situations, etc., etc. Perhaps it is their very fitness means that they are able to jump higher or longer, etc., and thus put themselves in greater danger. The ones that mess around and cling to the sides seem to escape relatively unscathed. It seems that some are being asked to do too much too quickly e.g Rebecca's injury may be simply because of inexperience in that in real life she would have spent more time learning exactly how to complete the manoeuvre before being allowed to attempt the jumps, etc. IMO the blame solely lies with the producers with the pressure to put on a show with a sense of as much danger as possible
I find it surprising even in general everyday life when people competing in sports are out of an event or a match because of injury. I would have thought that because they were at the peak of physical fitness and well trained that they would have minimal risk of being injured. But it seems that they are more prone to injury from things like torn hamstrings than the average member of the public. I never understood this. Is it because their muscles are like tightened elastic bands which are more likely to snap than some couch potato sat on their arse in front of a television? |

It was the tone she took really pissed me off.
Understand totally she was getting the information from 3rd parties. article in the Mirror today picked up on the same tone. Davina will tweet about "harshing her mellow" no doubt if the negative headlines carry on, but the Eagle makes a very valid point. If they have entrants who really aren't putting in the training then clearly putting them on the jump is going to be a disaster. Its basically confirming what others have said here this year a lot of them are only there for the pay cheque. cant see it being cancelled but I can see them only using the Air jump if the lack of training is seen as a major factor. |

Contestants injured and out:
Beth Tina Rebecca Mark Contestants with problems: Linford And did Sid say that he got a twinge in his thigh? Even Tom Foster told Davina that he felt a twinge in his knee as he came down the slope. This is almost half of the contestants. We're in week 2 of a 6 week show. Does this mean that the show will have finish much sooner than its 6 week run unless they have a week or two without eliminations? |

We also almost have a repeat of the ridiculous situation we had last week with the elimination. In week 1 Linford was given a bye to the next round as a fit contestant was eliminated. Linford isn't actually out yet, but it doesn't look very promising that he will last for long.
This week Mark didn't have to compete in the air jump because of his injury as they used a jump he performed in training, and as a consequence Arg was eliminated. So they kept an injured contestant as a sorely needed fit athlete is eliminated, only for the injured contestant to leave the competition anyway. By the way I refer to Arg as a 'fit' contestant using the loosest definition of the word as possible. |

Yes it's interesting how the people getting injured seem to be mostly the contestants who had a sporting career.

At least Heather Mills gives them slightly less chance of a broken bone.

I just don't know but think there is a combination of factors. Their fitness means that they are likely to be able to jump higher or go faster than others but their inexperience may mean they are not able to cope with the manoeuvres. The peak physical fitness includes heart and lung function not just muscular strength. They are using different combination of muscle groups than in their previous sporting profession which may mean additional strain. And, as you say, they are more prone to muscular injury just because they are fitter. Add in their natural desire to compete and push themselves, as opposed to slither down the track hanging on to the sides, and there is a recipe for disaster.
The whole show is shambolic; to continue would be stupid For example I think you get so many torn hamstrings in football because footballers use their quads more and thus their hamstrings aren't always in balance with their quads. I think in Rebecca's case though it was something different. Eddie Edwards said that she was flapping her arms and spinning them around like a human windmill to try to get more height. If she was overdoing it and putting so much effort into it you can see how her joint may have slipped out of its socket. Which suggests your other point was largely responsible in this case. That she was just trying so much harder being an athlete and pushed her body much further than a couch potato like Arg would. It seems like the non-athletes are much safer with their messing about and rolling their body down the slope for hilarious effect. Ironically the trainers should probably be telling the contestants to not try so hard, don't try to compete, and don't take it seriously as a competition. Just treat it as a bit of a joke and a laugh and you'll be much safer. |

I think you make a good point which is possibly part of the answer. I was just thinking if that was the reason just before I came back to the thread.

but when she did the comic relief thing didn't stop updating people on the problems doing it. IMHO these production companies are all the same that's why I just rolled away from Endemol/C5 before the latest CBB. 24hrs before the series began Ben Frow didn't even know there was live feed. Then the guy Smith running the show sent me an email utterly full of grade A BS. Nothing of which happened. they are all the same these production companies live in this little bubble of a world they release a statement and think that solves everything. I just hope Beth makes a full recovery and wont have lasting issues, Being in a wheelchair is a complete bastard Eddies comments earlier I cant ever remember him being so critical. It does sound like a fair number of these people simply aren't ready for anything like we've seen in previous series. If another episode goes out with not much "jumping" its pretty much confirming what he said. |
