thought the same thing. But panic in production they do strange things (unless she was already out there).

its strangely quiet on the official jump Twitter feed.

No she doesn't. Because she told us that they had been disqualified because they fell, rather than telling us that it was because they missed the last gate.

I wondered about that when she said it. Why are they being disqualified just for falling over? Even in the Olympics you don't get disqualified for falling over. There's nothing to stop you getting back up and completing the course. You'll still register a time - albeit a very slow one.

I actually can't think of a sport where you get disqualified for falling over. In gymnastics if you fall off the beam you will get a points deduction, but you don't get disqualified. You are expected to get back on and complete your routine, even if you now know you've no chance of winning. Olympic ideal, Corinthian spirit, not about the winning, about the taking part and all that.

I was prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt that she didn't realise that either had missed a gate and was just trying to get them to cross the finishing line.

But then, of course, she said they'd been disqualified for falling over. So she doesn't know the rules. Did she hear Barry Davis give the correct reason that they'd both missed a gate and that was why they'd been disqualified or are they not in communication?

It really find it annoying when Davina is fawning all over Linford Christie feted as the great "Olympic Hero"

A two years drugs ban says otherwise IMO.

I know what my definition of "hero" is and it clearly isn't the same as Davina's.

Such an overused word. Linford Christie is few people's hero.

you would think being the host Davina would know the rules of the games

I think that page is from last year though from the little footage they have shown it looks like they can start their descent at different points along the one jump they have got.

It was supposed to debut in episode 2 and then episode 3 but keeps getting delayed due to the injuries. It's just a good job they haven't named the whole show after that one event.

Oh, hang on...

Yes someone else mentioned it too, drat i thought i had it cracked! I will have another look at the press release and see if it is mentioned.

Edit: In the 2016 press pack no mention of three jumps so perhaps they have stupidly got rid of two smaller ones as others have assumed.

glad to see no one has injured themselves this week. if that remains throughout the remainder of the series they may bring it back. as apart from Beth's none of the other injuries have been any more serious than what we have seen in previous series

I Have several questions about the jump.

The pairings for each race mean the best go against the best and the worst against the worst , meaning that a good competitor could get knocked out if they don't get a high enough jump.
Is the jump counted equally for all or does their height get taking into consideration?

Late comers could win the whole thing even though they might have only competed in a few rounds?

How long does it last?

I do enjoy watching celebs being tested to the max but think we could be shown far more than an hour a week.

I agree! I thought that last week when Heather and Tamara(?) were racing together. Even the commentator said they were the two best skiers in the show.

I think they should do it on timings rather than the loser of each heat.

That happened in the first series - Joe McElderry came in as a replacement on day 3 and ending up winning.

They did that in the first series and it was not as interesting. It only puts them in to the jump off though, so if they are good at that they have an opportunity to survive. When it was just on time etc it became quite clear who was going to be the bottom two/three each night so was very predictable. By pairing the best with the best it at least makes each race slightly more exciting.

It is how high the skis are lifted up, the height of the skier wouldn't be taken in to account I wouldn't have thought.

Yes I agree but I also see the other posters thoughts that it would be the best skiers winning and the poorer ones at the bottom

Some of the girls are only 5 foot nothing and the boys over 6 feet , surely that gives the taller skier a much better chance of getting higher?

lol. thinking about the rules is probably pointless, they seem to adjust them to fit the situation after such a high drop out rate.

I shall try to just enjoy the farce.

Try thinking of it as a poorly conceived, poorly edited, poorly produced, poorly presented and generally a symbolic mess, and then the rules become of little consequence!

I think if they put it on nightly and simplified some of the games the show may still have a chance

Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pincent, Ben Ainslie, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Hoy would be better choices with the number of medals they won for our country. (Plus squeaky clean)

Plus their weight matters as it would contribute a lot to their speed when going downhill.
Louisa Lytton who was eliminated first didn't have a chance as she's so tiny and sleight of build.

It was even mentioned in a previous series that in The Skeleton your weight is a massive advantage.
Shappy

But Louisa did really well in the Skeleton, her time was one of the fastest, just not as fast as the person she was up against. It was her jump that she was eliminated on. Shame.
