Last year some of the ski jumps were barely over 10 metres (although off a smaller jump) so it is possible that if they have a bad ski jump (lower than 10m) a good air jump (more than 10m) could beat it. I think in reality the highest air jump so far has been just over ten metres. Therefore it is much better to do the ski jump because a poor landed ski jump should always beat a good air jump.

It was incredibly unlikely an air jump would beat a ski jump. However if they had ignored Heathers ski jump and said "oh well Sarah you have def lost to heather let's move on" people would complain about that. I think most viewers would have realised that Sarah would not beat heather.

I had posted before the air jump had happened that it was annoying that Sarah would not beat Heather because of it. I don't think it really matters that they compared them. They did use the ski jump this week which had been a previous criticism. I do wish they had all used the ski jump though but I guess if they are not confident it is better they have an alternative to use.
Of course it matters. People all stop talking as their interest is focused on the big video screen above them as they wait with baited breath to see if Sarah has beaten Heather.

I thought that was bad. Training all week (presumably) and then opting not to do the race correctly so giving the other person th victory. Both Sarah and Heather need a slap on the wrists for that - what happened to the spirit of taking part?

I bet the production team were pleased!!

I came to the conclusion last night that apart from the chaotic way that the programme runs the main reason I have yet to invest in the show this year is because the contestants just aren't that likeable.

I did think there was an attempt to improve the running of the programme last night with two of the contestants jumping after two races rather than all at the end of the show. Made more sense.
It did run better being an hour long as opposed to an hour and a half.
Before this week that extra half an hour was taken up at the start of the show with lots of waffle and time-wasting before the first event anyway.

Agreed. A better show for cutting out a shed load of waffle and reducing it to an hour.

Now, if it could run nightly instead of being stretched over what seems a lifetime it would be watchable again !

No that was not what I meant, what I meant was I don't think the mattered that they compared an air jump with a ski jump. They absolutely needed to show the difference between the jumps.

I'm guessing that it has been filmed already.

Surely they wouldn't be hanging around for weeks, would they?

at all the posters saying it's awful and they don't watch anymore but seemingly care enough to come and post about it on an obscure, practically dead part of the DS forums.
At least everyone else is posting on topic.
Do you have an opinion?

My post is on topic (oh look, I can bold too!); I was commenting on people's opinions on The Jump. I have contributed to this thread before as well.

Why though? It didn't make any difference what height Sarah had jumped.

I doubt very much if it has all been filmed already. They have stated on the show that it's live. if they say it's live, then it's supposed to be live. Otherwise they are deceiving the viewers.

The bookmakers are betting on the winner. They wouldn't be doing that if it had all been filmed already and the result was known to people who had worked on the show. By and large, bookies aren't keen on taking bets from people who already know who the winner is. They'd soon start to notice.

In any case I have looked at Sarah's Twitter feed and she has been sending back messages and pictures most days from the set/camp/hotel/call it what you will. I hardly think she's sitting back in her house in England watching it on the telly and pretending to still be out there.

They are definitely out there in real time. You have to be truthful if saying a show is live.

The funniest bit last night were Sid's eyes glistening as he thought about the airtime he was getting and saying doing the show didn't feel like work. It's not work, you haven't done that in years, love!

Thanks for your answer.

That's a pretty good gig for everyone then (obviously apart from those who have had injuries).
No wonder replacements have been easy to find.

Well it did, there was a possibility that she had jumped higher than Heather had jumped long, unlikely but still possible.

I agree with everything said here. If the show is commissioned for series 4 next year and by the sound of Davina last night I think it may be, it fixes those things and simplifies some of the games it may actually stand a chance again and get back on track

It ski cross so Tamara has a decent chance, it just depends how many are in each race.

I think another poster has mentioned that if the show is to be a weekly show then we need to have a mid-week programme, daily programme or some live link-ups just to keep the viewers updated and more importantly interested in what is happening between shows.

I know the ratings were slightly higher for the Sunday show following the injury fiascos, but I am wondering how the audience figures have fared since then in comparison with previous years.

I agree it would be better if it did something like ITT on SCD to keep us up to date daily with the contestants and have them interviewed each week so the we get to know them better throughout the show
