So glad Heather is out, not sure if it's the way the show is edited but she still doesn't come across as a likeable person...and the hair...what?!!

One thing that is certain is that they cannot possibly go higher than the height at which they started from. simply on the conservation of energy. At the top of the jump they have maximum potential energy and zero kinetic energy. As they travel down the slope this potential energy is converted to kinetic energy and they will speed up. As they rise up the take off ramp they slow down. But because there is inevitably energy loss due to friction, they cannot possibly reach the height at which they started from as there is no additional energy input.

I think.

It was a bit silly last night when Davina was "bigging up" Brian's jump. saying it was the highest air jump they'd ever had, as if that meant it had any more chance to beat the ski jumpers. it was still about three or four metres shorter than the shortest of the ski jumps.

As Sarah is now out I will not be bothering to watch the final.

Of the six women that started the show, only one made the final and only one was eliminated in the normal way. The other four had to withdraw due to injury. In addition the female replacement also had to withdraw. The attrition rate for the men was slightly less.
I believe that you're right for the most part. Bodyweight alone I doubt is going to achieve the necessary speed. Unless they attach rockets onto their backs.
In which case if they did, as the other poster mentioned, they'd overshoot the safety balloon thingamajig.

Has Heather Mills' mouth always been squint?

I'd never noticed before but that can be a side effect of over enthusiastic botoxing.

Another week when contestants leaving through injury outnumbered those eliminated in the show's actual elimination jump!

A farce. I can't imagine any way this can get another series (without a total change of format).

At least they've finally worked out that showing all the practice clips BEFORE the bit where they announce who is racing whom had zero tension.

Now they just need to work out that when there are 8 contestants, and they've already shown the first 4 that are racing each other, the look of "surprise" on the celebrity's faces when the second set of four names are read out is ridiculous, unless they are too thick to work out who was left.

That really annoys me, where they act all "shocked" at who they're racing when its so clear to everyone.

People argued that it wouldn't be exciting enough to hold viewers, but I think the only way to make the show SAFE enough to get celebs to agree to be on it is to focus one sport per celeb (except the Jump) and work out some tournament based on total number of wins. So like four celebs per sport (with some alternates), and no more than 3 or 4 sports total. Only way this can work and not hurt people--focusing on one sport, plus the Jump, is a limited enough menu that they'll actually get good enough to cut down on the possibility of injury by quite a lot.

Also no more contact winter sports.

You're right, but I don't think I'd watch that. Not because I enjoy the injuries, but because I want to see all the contestants doing all the sports.

if they went back to basics like it was in series 1 or 2 they would be fine to do series 4

No fourth series - it has been axed (well, possibly, maybe) according to The Sun:

Stars Ben Cohen, Tamara Beckwith, Sid Owen and Dean Cain will tonight compete to win the series after weeks of death-defying challenges.

But they will be the last to take the plunge after Channel 4 bosses decided the viewing figures are too low to justify the millions ploughed into the ski show.

An audience of just 2.3million tuned in to watch The Jump’s star-studded launch last month.

Last week’s semi-final drew only 1.6million viewers after the show was hit by controversy over a series of injuries suffered by celebrities.

<snipped>

A show source said: “The feeling among the show team is that this has been the worst series yet.

“After so many injuries, the celebrities are terrified of everything — and then the viewer ratings have fallen off a massive cliff.

“Yes, there has been a lot of controversy about people getting injured, but that isn’t the problem. At the end of the day, this comes down to business.

“The show is just not pulling in the viewing figures to justify the huge amount being spent on it.

“On top of the celebrity fees and travel costs, there’s insurance, the medical team, the fees for hospital treatment. The list goes on. The bosses’ view is that it isn’t worth it for an audience of a few million.”
HOWEVER, later in the article there is this:

A show spokeswoman last night denied The Jump had been axed.

She said: “The Jump has been hugely successful, averaging over two million viewers. Last Sunday it helped Channel 4 to be the most watched commercial channel across the day.

It is categorically untrue to suggest the show has been axed.”

Rested maybe? Or will it continue?

What about Tom Parker?? . I do hope this is an oversight, and not an allusion to Tom being out through injury, he's come on so well he deserves his place in the final, IMO. Not to mention I wouldn't mind him winning after the way Heather Mills dissed his skiing skills last week, as a two-finger salute to her - who DOES she think she is??!!

xx

It's weird. With the reality game shows I normally watch, the weekly thing works to build up the excitement. However, with The Jump it just kills it. I don't know why. I hope they go back to the old format if it does come back, or better still, bring back The Games.
