Although I was under the impression that there was going to be a third Fame Academy series - I was informed personally by Jake Humphrey, CBBC presenter who always used to do the Academy updates, and also it seems unlikely they'd buy a shiny new academy just for Comic Relief - I have stumbled across something that you lot might find interesting.

So sign up if you want there to be a third series, there's no harm in it even if you don't think it'll make a difference.

Not quite - I don't believe "Fame Academy" is mentioned by name in the charter!

It's the interpretation of it that counts - are there enough 'Unique Selling Points' in FA to differentiate it from Pop Idol, X-Factor etc. In my view the answer is "YES!", but we'll have to wait and see, won't we?

I am of the opinion that there may well be a third FA. As the original starter of the thread mentioned, it seems strange that they have gone to the trouble of finding a building that is appropriate to be converted into an Academy.

I also feel that the mere fact that a Bursary set up on the back of FA which has generated a great deal of money to help up and coming musicians, which has Sir Paul McCartney involved, shows the programme to be far more than just another talent show. It has contributed a great deal and will surely continue to do so.

It was unfortunate that the original FA was launched after the success of Pop Idol, as it always was the underdog show because of this - plus people were quick to accuse it of trying to emulate PI which obviously wasn't....Thank God!

Anyone trying to dumb down FA to the level of PI must certainly need their head read!!

I just hope that they don't put it on at the same time as ITV's equivilant like they did last time. Do they not realise that the two programmes would appeal to the same people and one of the programmes is going to suffer because of this. Last time it was FA. I think clever television scheduling could make the programme a big success.

I am optimistic after Richard Park's remarks about Patrick Kielty. He seems to infer that there will be another series and Patrick will not be there! This from yesterdays People:

Quote:
“BOOT OUT TV KIELTY Mar 13 2005

By James Desborough

FAME Academy's acid-tongued headmaster Richard Park says host Patrick Kielty should be booted off the hit TV show.”

I am sure if it wasn't considered before, it will be now, especially after the superb viewing figures.

Well I've signed, the sooner it comes back the better! Music can be developed and not manufactured if FA stays around. People had the freedom to have their own style and not Simon Cowell's style

That's a good point. Why say that he should be fired if there's not going to be another show?

Dont read anything into this. Richard Park is hardly going to know- I doubt anyone will until the new controller of BBC1 is appointed.

No, I watched a very angry Tessa Jowel talking on Breakfast with Frost last week on how the media had been picking on certain programmes which bear no relevance ot the green paper. She said that the BBC will always entertain us, and that the purpose of the the report was not to stop them from doing so.

Especially BBC News, considering they were running clips of it as an example of programmes that need to go!

Even more optimistic after reading this about the ratings for Comic Relief on Friday night.

Quote:
“from Media Guardian

Comic Relief better than Christmas for BBC

Stephen Brook
Monday March 14, 2005

Comic Relief: Red Nose Night Live 05 dominated the Friday night ratings, giving BBC1 a share of the audience that even surpassed its dominance on Christmas Day.
The biennial charity programme saw a Vicar of Dibley special featuring a visit by Antiques Roadshow, the final of Celebrity Fame Academy and a host of guest appearances by stars such as Robbie Williams, Rowan Atkinson and Sir Elton John.

Comic Relief was seen by 10.8 million viewers and attracted a 45% share of available viewers between 7pm and 10pm, according to unofficial overnights.

The entertainment, interspersed with documentaries about the charitable causes donations were destined for in Africa and Britain - which has so far raised £37.8m - helped to push the BBC1 audience share for Friday to 37.2%.

This was better even than BBC1's Christmas Day ratings victory last year, when 33.8% of the audience tuned in to the network.”

"Aaah", you might say, "but that's not for Fame Academy alone", well the first appearance from the final three was before 8.00 and up against Coronation Street on ITV, FA pushed Corrie's ratings under 10 million.

Quote:
“also from Media Guardian
Comic Relief even pushed Coronation Street below 10 million viewers, as 9 million tuned in to the soap at 7.30pm on ITV1. At the same time, Comic Relief was attracting 8.7 million viewers.”

As somebody else on this thread has already said, if they don't put FA up against something like PI it would be successful

Do you really expect a member of this cabinet to be truthful? In the news item following the publishing of the report, Tessa Jowell mentioned Fame Academy specifically as one of the programmes the BBC could not produce.

I've added my name to the petition & I hope this thread will be bumped daily!

I have noticed subtle suggestions for another show, but I wish Patrick would still be on the team.

BBC won't take any notice of petitions, I remember the anger against them when FA2 ended, then they flatly refused to give the voting figures in detail

I believe the BBC will probably make one more series of Fame Academy, after the success of the Comic Relief series. Although the government told the BBC to stop chasing ratings, the BBC are unlikely to axe popular entertainment programmes as they fulfill the Entertainment pledge contained within the charter. Fame Academy also educates to a certain extent via the live streaming. The programme shows how singers prepare before live performances. I believe that the BBC will shift the focus of the programme towards the tutoring by Carrie and David, rather than the reality of how the students drink and what time they go to bed. I believe the BBC 3 show will focus much more on the academy students learning process rather than having big interviews. With the big name guest apearing after the BBC 1 show. If the BBC did this i beleive that they would be able to justify the series returning, which would make it differnt from other reality formats.

I hope you're right, the format you've described is much more how FA1 was, FA2 focussed too much on the students spare time and silly games (lawn darts ). In FA1 they were singing or songwriting most of the time and didn't have time for stuff like that.

HA HA wish I could be that funny.
Look this goverment will do anything for votes and if it thinks it will loose votes over this they will amend it, also I don't know why everyone is getting so worked up it's only the green paper which outlines what they would like to bring in it's not actually in place yet.

So people who are over 18 don't watch fame academy I take it. I think you'll find a large majority of the people who watch fame academy are over 18

Yeah ofcourse they do. But your not seriously telling me that anyone with the slightest bit of sense is going to vote in a general election on the issue of Fame Academy? God help this country if im wrong- but I think there are slightly more important issues in the country, and the world, to vote on
