According to the BBC article, the note 4 includes a UV sensor to record your exposure to sunlight. The only problem is you need to leave to phone out for it to work!

If that was remotely true why show it at a European trade show?

It came from a handset buyer. She told me that there would be two versions of the note 4. One with a wrap around screen that samsung have told the retailers here is asia market only.

To be fair, they didn't go into that much detail about it which seemed odd at the time.

Maybe it will come to select operators as an exclusive and be announced in the coming weeks? There's bound to be a few networks that will think it give them, cough, an edge.

I certainly didn't get any press release this afternoon about its release in the UK, but got them on the Note 4 and all the Sony Xperia devices announced.

So what's this about the Note Edge? Is this a sister phone to the new Note 4? Is it another flagship alongside the Note 4?

I don't like the edge. I think it needs to be on both sides, symmetry might help.

According to Android Authority, all major US carriers are getting the Edge so not Asia only.

Wow, that's something you don't see everyday! Definetely looks cool with top notch specs to boot.

Interesting phone but wouldn't it make sense to have the 'edge' on both sides? Or is that going to be what the Note Edge 2 will be? Lol.

Here is a hands on video of the Edge in action:

Thanks for that.

Blimey, I dunno whether it's worse to think Samsung just went with a half-assed idea or that somebody at Samsung thought it was a good idea.

It's NOT Asia only. All the reviewers are getting both handsets to review.

Pick up your phone. The left hand edge will be obscured by your hand (unless you are a cacker). This is why they have made it asymmetrical.

Besides looking "cool", what exactly is the point of the curved display? What does that extra bit of screen ad to the user's experience?

I'm told that phones that have a concave curve do so in order to fit against a person's body better.
I assume that the convex curve is designed to fit into pockets better or something.

Personally, I think the whole thing is just a case of companies investing money in curved screens and then flogging them before the technology is properly mature as a means of getting some return on their investment.

Do you guys think this is a worthwhile upgrade from the Note 3? I that the N4 is going to be faster but it's not a great deal faster. I feel like I should just hang on to my N3 for the time being but I' like to hear other people's opinion's in case they could sway my decision.

The demo I saw on the tv a while ago showed the example of the phone being on a desk and the curved bit showing time, notifications, etc. that seems like a good idea, although because of the curve being on one side, you will need yo make sure the phone is the right way round.

It does seem the curve is on the wrong side for right handed people

I'm sticking with the note 3 for another year. Note 4 would be a good upgrade from a note 2 but the note 3 still is a really great phone. The most important things to me are battery life and camera which I'm still very happy with on the note 3.

Or left-handed, in which case you need to hold it upside down. I think it looks odd only on one side. For the money they are asking for it they could have put it on both sides just for it to look pretty, IMO.

It depends on what you feel is a worthy reason. I'd say the camera alone is a good enough reason to upgrade.

I really like the concept of the note edge. I get a feeling it might become mainstream.

I'm also gonna stick with my Note 3. Need to take it in for repair as somehow its got dirt inside the camera lens recently. Spec wise the Note 4 is quite a marginal improvement so I'm happy to run through the second year of my contract before upgrading.

Apologies for not keeping up with this thread as have been away for a few days. After finally seeing the Note 4 reveal, it has near enough made my decision to get one once it gets released as imho it is a major step up to my dated S3. The only thing I have to wait on now is the tariffs and any upfront payment needed.

Expect it to be a lot at time of release. The operators know it can make money from them.

I do hope we don't see some crazy tariffs that give just 512MB of data and the like to keep the price down!

I've decided I'm going to stick with my Note 3 as well. Dropped it outside today on concrete while I was going to meet my sister and expected the screen to be shattered or cracked at least, but there's not a blemish on the screen, really fantastic device.
