I have a rather unusual requirement; I am planning a screen for training purposes and educational videos. I've seen the 60" LG TV which allows you to use a pen to draw on the screen, and I'm trying to compare this to a projector and/or a full smartboard.

The TV is just under £1000, but I'm wondering whether that's cost effective versus a projector and screen, although of course the projector image could be much larger than 60 inches.

Any thoughts?

Normal TV pictures tend to be much better than projectors, and don't have the high running costs - the advantage of projectors of course is the size, but if 60" is big enough, go for the TV.

A few things to consider.....

If the PJ and screen are not permanently fixed you'll need to set it up each time you use it, a TV you just switch on.

A PJ works best in a darkened room, a TV works in normal daylight.

You will be able to get a PJ/screen for 50% less than the TV, of course you will need a pointed stick for your presentations not a pen.

Bulbs have a short lifespan, anywhere from 2000hrs to 4000hrs, some can be expensive to replace, a TV is normally good for tens of thousands of hours.

Audio on a PJ is normally sourced externally, some do come with a small speaker but they are not very powerful, the TV will probably go louder but doubt the quality will be that much better.

You'll be able to get a much larger image with a PJ, if your presentation videos are for a large audience that could be an important factor, especially if you are showing text.
