Does anyone else recall the Michael Douglas movie Falling Down about a laid off middle aged defence worker who gradually goes apeshit because of his life spiralling out of control?

Alfie currently reminds me of this. Would it be interesting to see him go into even more of a downward spiral like the character in that movie? What do you think? This isn't intended as a bashing thread, as I try to avoid doing that as I know every character has their fans, but I think this kind of story could be interesting.

Brilliant film!

It would be an extremely interesting direction for his character. Alfie's 'cheeky chappy' act had almost become a caricature so I'm really pleased they're taking him down a darker route; it gives Shane Richie something much more interesting to do which will actually challenge him as an actor.

Exactly! The writing in EE can still be very lazy on occasion. That they actually had Alfie say to someone 'I'm a cheeky chappie' indicates to me that they're starting to give up on the character.

Yes I do remember that movie!

I think Alfie following the same kind of story line would be interesting to watch just to see how far he would go but it would be sad at the same time as it would probably be quite difficult for me to watch my favourite man go through turmoil!

He would probably kill Aleks!

And I know you're not bashing him, thanks for that!

I think we have enough killers on the square for now! There are times in life when everything can just pile up. I think everyone will experience that at some point unless they are very lucky and it would be interesting to see that reflected on screen.
