Ospreys v Scarlets (Guinness Pro12)

BBC Radio Wales - Catrin Heledd host from (the) Liberty Stadium, with Nick Webb and Garin Jenkins doing commentary (All frequencies / Online)

BBC Radio Cymru - Huw Llewellyn Davies (also host) and Emyr Lewis (commentary)

It was the Welsh Grand National from Chepstow today, but there was no commentary on either Radio Wales or Cymru at the time of the start of the race (about 2.40pm-ish). I've been checking on and off if there were any reports heard during any news updates on the hour to see if anyone was there for either station, to no avail.

I've just heard John Hunt's commentary used for when Radio Wales do its 'Sports round-up' at half times of games.

Christmas Day - ESPN Radio

John Brickley presented The NBA on ESPN Radio from the Bristol, Connecticut studios

National Basketball Association
Oklahoma City Thunder @ San Antonio Spurs - Marc Kestecher and Bruce Bowen (7.30pm GMT commentary)
Cleveland Cavaliers @ Miami Heat - Kevin Calabro and P.J. Carlesimo, with Marc Stein as courtside reporter (10pm GMT commentary)

Changing tact, I've not posted in this thread since he left this message, but although I didn't reply to it I wanted to let Swansea Steve know I enjoyed reading his considered thoughts on talkSPORT's latest foray into boxing coverage.

I believe (one of) the other summariser(s) is Erv McSweeney, although I'm not sure if they've used any other commentators or summarisers on the Second Test. They've been using four lead commentators recently.

I've actually been holding fire on posting the full details from the series as I've not been able to have a lengthy listen to their coverage yet, but am planning to have a proper listen tonight.

I think you are right about Erv McSweeney because it did sound as though he was called Merv or Herb - I found it difficult to differentiate. The summarisers seem to do each session as 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 30 minutes. I am pretty certain (judging from the first session today) that RSNZ are only using three commentators.

Some news from the NFL today, 5 Live will once again broadcast the Superbowl. Darren Fletcher and Rocky Boiman will call the match. 2 weeks earlier they will call the AFC Championship match on Sports Extra, with the NFC title match preceding it.

Welcome news, although I don't think it's the biggest surprise given how Absolute Radio no longer have any interest in the NFL. When AR80s ended their weekly coverage this year, I was hopeful that Radio 5 Live would come in to fill the void. Thanks for posting the details.

BBC Radio Wales

Cennydd Davies (studio host)

Glasgow Warriors v Scarlets (Guinness Pro12) - Nick Webb and Gordon Bullogh (Online)

Commentary was meant to be on all frequencies, but a 'Call Rob Phillips' was introduced so people could air their views on yet another hilarious day at Tan FC. The second half was made available on 'all frequencies'.

BBC 5LSX

Gloucester v Saracens (Aviva Premiership) - ? (studio host) Andy Wyman, Simon Devereux and James Simpson-Daniel (as Radio Gloucestershire)

Pedant's corner - it's Gordon Bulloch. Still, at least you didn't misspell Gordon's surname in the same way as Richard Keys once mispronounced it in an infamous Hawksbee & Jacobs Clip of the Week!

Completely off-topic for this thread, but out of interest what do you make the latest development at Tan's Dragons? I take it the colour change is not enough to attract you back to the Cardiff City Stadium, but you welcome the move?

For me, the 'back to blue' change of heart solves nothing. I have a sinking feeling that the colour change was 'forced upon him' (like what happened in May 2012 to the club) mainly down to the low attendances, where those shitty fans who were so quick to lap up the bright lights of the Premier League last season suddenly realised that maybe having a cub in mid-table Championship wasn't for them. It saddens me to say it, but at some points during this season I wanted them to be relegated again, so he could go (I also refuse to believe that he has settled all debt issues that the clubs still finds themselves in - it's simply been re-branded as 'negative equity').

For more, I'd suggest you read this from the Western Mail's Chris Wathan (the only person from that paper or the South Wales Echo who was against the rebrand from the start)

I wouldn't listen to anyone saying that it was down to Vincent Tan's mother who convinced him to go back on his move!

There's another journalist locally who summed it up perfectly on his Twitter account on Thursday suggesting:-

'I'll put up with red in PL, but not in Championship' mentality. From many. That and the fact that I don't think it was really viable anymore for Tan to suggest red was 'lucky' for a team in freefall.

It was indeed Erv McSweeney. Interesting that, though he has done test commentaries from Auckland and Hamilton for 20 plus years, it was Allen McLaughlin's first commentary from the Basin Reserve in Wellington.

For the first test in Christchurch it was Waddle, Jordan, Garth Galloway (son of legendary NZ commentator Iain Galloway) and Paul Routledge (commentator in Christchurch for many years , but his first test commentary). Summarisers were Chris Harris and Rod Latham, whose son Tom was opening the batting for NZ (with Hamish Rutherford, whose father Ken was commentating on TV).
