Even though Hollyoaks gave up any semblance of reality a good while back can anybody explain to me how Nancy can take leave from her teaching job to go on Honeymoon? Surely a teacher cant go on leave during term time?

I'm sure most teachers are allowed leave for their wedding, honeymoon, funerals, etc

They certainly weren't allowed to back when my mother was a teacher. They weren't as down on kids missing a week or two at the end of term as they are now but we always had to go in the 6 weeks of the summer holidays.

I suppose they could argue she'd get some time off due to the trauma of the attempted rape but the wedding and honeymoon were booked before that had happened.

Again unless it has changed, no they are not. They cab have days off for funerals of course as they can hardly be delayed until the next holidays or done at the weekend but planned events are expected to be organised for the holidays. Hence my parents wedding anniversary is the middle of august to allow for the honeymoon afterwards. I bet if you were to send out a questionnaire to all teachers you'd find the majority of them married late July to mid August. Certainly all my Mum's friends that she worked with did.

The argument is, they get approximately 12 weeks of holiday a year (3 times the national average) and they know the dates of the holidays at least a year in advance so it shouldn't be too hard to organise holidays, weddings etc within those weeks. Other teachers can cover the odd day for sickness or a close relatives funeral but a week they'd have to hire a supply teacher which is expensive and can interrupt the continuity and quality of the children's education.

I work in a school and most the teachers I know holiday during school holidays, one person I know got married the day after we broke up and went on her honeymoon straight after. If any of us go on holiday or anything during term time, we loose our pay for that week or however long we are on leave for.

Same here, it's also very frowned on and causes disharmony with the rest of the staff who end up covering and doing extra work to fill in for holidaying staff

A soap that advertises a phone number to ring if viewers have been affected by anything shown on screen. So they must (mistakingly) think that what they show is true to life.
