I fitted a box for a neighbour yesterday who has subscribed to BT Sport and has emails confirming it is active, but no sign of them in the '500s'.
How does he get them or activate them?
I have pressed the 'BT' button and get to the log in screen. This says the pin is the same as the default (1234). We haven't created any other.
I put the pin into the boxes, but they just grey out again.

On BT YouView, BT sport is on Channel 507 (BTS1) / 508 (BTS2) or 510 / 511 for the HD versions. When you go to these channels for the first time, you have to "Set them up", you will see an on screen message telling you to press select, once you do this after a few seconds the picture will appear.

With regards to the pin, when you go into the BT Player App for the first time, it asks you to set up a pin, this is not the same as the pin for the youview box (and you can set a different pin here), BT Player doesn't require a pin every time you go into it. This makes me think you haven't completed the setup here either.

http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/40460 may help shed some light on what you need to do. BT customer service will reset your pin if you have set it and then forgotten it.

Well- after spending 2 or 3 hours in neighbour's house and more time searching on web, I gave up.
Just as well, as he phoned his son, who set up the BT 'contract', who stated it was only for the laptop not TV!!
Presumably that is an option.

Yes-- gets all free view channels, if that's what you mean?
I don't know if he is on infinity. It is available where we live.

No. I mean the other BT TV channels you get (such as Discovery) when you take out a TV subscription with BT which is how you get them to supply you with a Youview box. Or is it a retail Youview box (not a BT supplied one) which fits more with what you are describing?

It is a genuine BT box from BT.
I think he only has a BT Sport sub. If that is possible.
As I mentioned earlier his son set the sub up for him and I understand it was only for the laptop ( internet).
I'll have to pop over and see what extra TV channels he has.

It transpires that my neighbour is not on Infinity so he only gets BT Sport on his laptop via broadband.
Managed to have a live chat with BT today quoting his details. To get it on TV he would have to pay more for Infinity.

If your neighbour has a tablet or smart phone he could cast it via Chromecast - just £30 - but not as straightforward as YouView obviously.

If your exchange does not have fibre but you have a line speed over 6mb then you can have the BT Sport channels delivered over ADSL Multicasting (if the technology has been enabled in your exchange). Bt would need to send the multicast software update to your box. Without all of these it simply wont work or even display the channels.

Can he not connect laptop to TV with an HDMI cable.? When I spoke to BT on his behalf they suggested he could. Which seemed very generous of them.

I can connect my Android tablet to my TV with HDMI. Depends if the laptop has an HDMI output.

As long as the customer has BT broadband, I don't think BT minds too much how it's viewed. But if it's not through a set top box it can be a bit of a faff for some people.

If you connect using VGA that is video only so you also need to connect audio from headphone out on the laptop to the accompanying input on the TV.

Yes-I realise that connecting with anything but hdmi also requires an audio cable.
It's a 12 month old Toshiba and I'm pretty sure I have seen the hd socket on it.
