I hope he does better too. It depends on if the Over's are over 25 or over 28 - if over 28 he will be with the Boys again.

Glad Paul came back (as long as it's the best route for him). Always thought he should have gone through last year - he was one of my two favourites. I'm slightly worried about how they're hyping up the whole 'Louis sent me home' angle though with Simon playing that for all it's worth - I don't think it helps Paul.

I think a lot of us suspect his weight is what got him dumped last rime - never mind 'not being ready'. He looks so different now, attractive even - and his voice is like liquid gold. Rooting for him.

I love Paul but I don't think that song was a good choice for him. He seemed nervous too, though that's completely understandable.

Really enjoyed Paul's performance last night, best of the bunch for me. Agree the song wasn't the best choice, and apparently he has had a cold too, all of which means loads of potential for next week

Over on Planet Cowell he needs to up his performance and be more confident. To add insult to injury he suggested adding a piano to the mix ffs. I think this is derailment rather than honest critique.
Paul has got the X Factor in spades and he can outsing most of the other acts. Rooting for Paul! |

Simon's always been a mealy mouthed asshat though. All this talk about 'personality' etc is nonsense. What he really means is 'gimmick'.
Sam Smith doesn't exactly radiate personality, but lets his voice be the focus. And he's doing alright for himself. |

Im neglecting my thread. Thanks for all the comments i have loved all of paul's performances so far. Sadly i think with andrea & lauren its a tough year for him to finally make lives but i am sure he will get far through.
Me & my sister both like him so its a war who is the bigger paul fan

How could he win?
Yes, Simon keeps going on about personality and confidence, but I think he’s actually trying to figure out what is the "X" that is missing with Paul.
And I agree that there IS something that needs to be added to the mix. At the moment, I cannot picture him as the winner out of this bunch. The thing is, I’m really rooting for him! So what should be done? The singing - absolutely nothing to fault there. He sings perfectly, and lives the song. He’s got a pleasant personality, so it’s not that he divides people. Paul looks more like a star now too (I think it’s better styling and confidence, not just weight loss). At the moment I'm thinking it’s the song choices and especially the arrangements. He can make any song sound good, but he needs songs that make him stand out. I can’t quite yet imagine what’s his lane, what kind of album he'd release. First week’s song choice was pretty bland and didn't stand out, and I think the arrangement of what he did last week sounded pretty old-fashioned (with the violins and such). I wish he’d get to do something that sounds like off the charts in 2014. Most of the others in the competition have figured out their paths more clearly, so they have the upper hand. So I’m hoping Paul figures this out too for himself (I doubt Mel B will be much help there!), and then focuses on that, with songs suitable to that (maybe something quirky to stand out a bit) and more current arrangements. I do hope he does well

What on earth was that on Saturday night? Paul sang perfectly and Simon (and the producers) ripped into him, on the basis of their highly edited VT? They need to get a grip down at xf hq, before they're left with vocal titans Stereo Kicks and Stevi in the final.

Just putting some love out there for Paul. Sadly I think he's going tomorrow with the classic savaging one week followed by the faint praise and death-slot the next. I hope I'm wrong but all the signs are pointing that way.
If he does go then, for me, it will only underline what a farce this show has become in recent years. |
