Recommendations for a new TV, got a good idea of spec...

Hi all

It's soon to be the time to buy a new TV, in fact I'll be buying two: one each for the living and dining room, thinking 48-50" and mid range, £600-£800 each I guess.

I've always liked Sony (previous main TV was the floating glass Sony KDL-L32MRX1) but Samsung seem to be doing so well in TVs nowadays. Not really got a lot of love for Panasonic, guess I feel Sony wins on product design, Samsung maybe on connectivity? And for me Smart technology seems to be more and more important as we stream to TVs...

Features I think I want:
48-50"
LED
WIFI
Smart TV (with updateable software/best apps?)
Easy to use/navigate EPG
Freeview HD

Features that might be good:
Recoding possibility a 'nice to have'
DLNA?

Features I'm not fussed on:
4k
Curved screen
3D

Any suggestions or issues I should be looking out for? Just read some Samsung's have lip synch issues :-/

Any advice (or even the odd curveball?) appreciated!

What do you mean lip sync issues? thats only if your connecting to a AV receiver/surround sound setup, even then you can adjust the sync settings to suit, so not really a problem there.

What id say is, buy from John Lewis if you can, the only place you can get a 5year warranty for free, which its worth around £200 if you pay for that type of cover elsewhere. Sometimes RicherSounds do have some offers with free extended warrantys too. Id definitely not buy from Currys etc, ive heard many a horror story on returning faulty goods to them

OK thanks guys. Lidtop: read some recent reviews on Currys (I think) and one or two of the Samsungs that were in my shortlist had 2-3 people commenting about iffy lip-synch that software updates hadn't rectified...

I have a Sammy. when I change sources, I often get lip synch issues, but turning the tv off and on fixes it.. I imagine it's an issue with the HDMI pairing.
