The women of Walford need to purchase an item that runs on batteries - or perhaps one of these blokes instead - at least they keep their mouths shut!

The middle one in the first link looks like the actress Jane Lynch.

I like Charlie but it would be really dull if they end up having the same mundane relationship angst as everyone else.

I really wanted Sharon to return as a brooding widow who boiled over with rage when she found out the reason for her widow hood but they just made her look ridiculous.”

Stacey and Dean would have been good but that obviously won't happen now. I seriously hope the writers are not considering putting her with the awful Ryan. They were hideous together last time.

I agree about Ronnie and Charlie. I could maybe have seen it back when Charlie was this mysterious character but not now we know he's a bog scrubber. The idea of them as a couple just doesn't work for me.

I'm quite happy with Sharon's recent development but her return and revange has been wasted on rubbish. I think it should all be put in the past and just moved on from now that she's on the right track again.

Shirley's desperation to be with Phil is more to do with fear than love. Shirley is an alcoholic lowlife who abandoned her children. Without Phil her future looks bleak. The best case scenario is her children sometimes giving her money and perhaps one of them feeling obligated to let her live with them for a while until her drunken escapades or sharp tongue get her kicked out. I think Shirley knows that there is a good possibility that she will die an old, bitter, lonely drunk with few mourners and this frightens her.

When Shirley is with Phil she is somebody. Being Phil's moll gave her social status and she loved throwing her weight around when they were together bullying Carol, Abi, Jean and Heather. No matter what Phil does, how badly he treats her or how many times he rejects her Shirley will still pursue him as her future without him is terrifying.

She's a desperate fool, Phil could cover up her best friends murder and she'll still be up his arse.....oh wait.

Ah so just another thread that descends into a Shirley bashing thread. Does no one get sick of these? Alfie, Shirley and Cora don't half get a lot of stick on here and the sad thing is they are actually interesting characters imo, the show would be boring without controversial characters. I would much rather watch them than some of the 'goodie' characters that posters on here place on a pedalstal.

Yeah, I certainly dont put Sharon on a pedestal - the last of the Watts she be but since her return she has been nothing but a thick, snotty, man dependant bitch.

This is of course because they stuck her with the Philth - no character can survive that because of the sick worship of the little thug by TPTB.

This - excellent post.

And if Shirley does win the marvellous prize that is Phil, how long will it be before he again tells her to her face that he cannot promise to be faithful to her?

He is fond of her in the same way that he would be of a mangy old dog which had been kicked from pillar to post and had a bad life.

As soon as someone even marginally more attractive comes along he would be having an affair behind her back again.
To be honest, there is no fool like and old fool and she deserves it.

Like Dawn?

That really was preposterous (and stomach churning).

Like who? goodie characters placed on a pedestal.

I like 'interesting' character like the next person but I also like developed, well written characters that not always on a repetitive high or see no change in them, they just go round in circles, what's exactly interesting in that??

fans of certain characters get defensive all the time when anyone dares say anything against their character and just calls people out on there so called 'bashing' instead of looking at what is actually being discussed and seeing if there is some valid points are being made.

At the end of the day it's fiction, it's there to be interpreted and discussed negative or positive, I'm for one am not going to get my knickers in a twist over it.

Characters who indulge in sleazy affairs always get slated on here. This is nothing compared to the daily threads about Kat when she cheated on Alfie or the sheer venom towards Tanya when she cheated with Max. Some of the language was so extreme that the mods had to pin a warning at the top of the forum. I am a fan of Shirley's but I loath this love triangle, I feel embarrassed for her.

As for Alfie he's being written as a bigger idiot than he's ever been. No idea why. Generally he was a reasonable popular character but since he's been out of the Vic he's being destroyed.

No doubt Dean will become the next object of hate along with anyone who takes his side.

Indeed. I'm always amazed when soap actors say they've been verbally abused, even spat on, in the street. Clearly people have a problem separating fiction from reality.

I feel embarrassed for her too!

I agree with everything you've said tbh!

Also to other posts, I am aware of the difference between fiction and reality that is why it baffles me that some posters can have such a deep hatred of characters and such when they aren't real people, they have been written that way for entertainment.

people shouldn't take it personally if people dislike a certain character imo. I like Shirley alot but if others don't then fair enough. my only issue is the hypocrisy that tends to happen. people forgive their favourite characters anything but are merciless when it comes to those they dislike. either judge everyone's actions the same or nobody's

I wasn't suggesting you don't ...I apologize if it came over that way. Yes some people do go overboard with their deep dislike of a character.

I agree Sorcha, probably guilty of it but I do see your point.
