I know I go on about philth but Walford wouldn't be the same without him! also he provides great material for mockery on here

I'll ignore your comments about the lovely max! lol
Phil makes a great punchbag.

BIB I take it you'll be enjoying Strictly this year....Jake seems to have some talent.

Don't take it to heart Ell. As the others have said all the big characters get bashed on here, Bianca, Kat, Sharon, Max, Ian etc. And this is a golden age for Shirley so I would focus on enjoying that if you're a fan.

Oh I don't. It just gets repetitive is all, the negativity on here is insane!

Like Dawn?

That really was preposterous (and stomach churning).

She -

Was madly in lust with him -

Very realistic.
He said "marginally more attractive" then shirley

Ummm...how could that be?

Anyone not snivelling in the bitter gutter

I see it like watching a movie in a cinema. Some people will watch in silent appreciation, some will whoop with delight, others (ie Chris ) will perve over the actors, some will throw chairs at the screen and shout 'Worra load of bollocks!"

Damn straight (or should that be bent?).

My latest pervy thought consisted of Sean coming back to bum Dean.

It was so wrong to make them enemies.

(Actually I tell I lie, Radders gave me that idea. Shhh).

Ah so just another thread that descends into a Shirley bashing thread. Does no one get sick of these? Alfie, Shirley and Cora don't half get a lot of stick on here and the sad thing is they are actually interesting characters imo, the show would be boring without controversial characters. I would much rather watch them than some of the 'goodie' characters that posters on here place on a pedalstal.
To be fair I don't think a thread with 'Shirley' and 'doormat' in the title was ever going to be anything else but a bit of a bashing thread!

It's my belief that the cards were stacked against Shirley from the off because for some she committed the ultimate sin a woman can do - deserted her children, one of whom had a serious illness and died in her absence. But child desertion coupled with a very abrasive personality means that she's just not going to appeal to some people. Child desertion, abrasive personality with a Phil obsession which makes her look like a mug? Hmmm. Even more odds stacked against her, lol! TBH, I can understand why she gets a lot of flack.

Personally I might not 'like' Shirley per se but I do find her fascinating and a good character. A show full of goody goodies would bore me to tears, it's their 'faults' that keep them interesting. It's when they don't do the right thing that I get irate and kick off.

Take Shirley away from Phil and I think she'd improve no end. Have her concentrating on her family rather than a relationship which really isn't healthy for her and makes her look weak and sometimes quite pathetic. Not holding my breath though as I have a sneaky feeling they'll end up back together simply because in Phil's case no one else will have him and in hers she (sadly) doesn't want anyone else.

Great post lotty. Shirley was at her best when she was raging about Ev. Looking into Phil's eyes and telling him he deserves better is sickening. Equally so is Sharon telling Linda she has a good man.

I never thought I'd see DTC turn female characters into spineless walkovers.

I'm disappointed.

I feel like dearly departed Mo Mouse would have made some excellent observations in this thread

Public Service Announcement: Please all remember when you're posting that Shirley is a gutter-dwelling, vodka-swilling, nasty excuse for a human being and it is offensive to claim otherwise. It's what Mo would have wanted. Thanks.

Presumably there's a twist in the tale and the ladies rediscover their ,ahem, balls. Then again they might just pee us all off further and have Sharon and Shirley jousting for Phil's hand in marriage!

I was hoping that Shirley and Sharon would form an alliance against Phil. But no, they have to fight over that thing.

My dream scenario! Knew it wouldn't happen but I would have loved it

What annoys me is that they've turned Sharon into a weak fool. It was great when she first met Marcus and was planning her revenge but now she's turned as wimpy as Shirley when it comes to Phil *roll eyes*

Oh totally. It would have been so much better if the Dennis reveal happened now.

But why?

TPTB would make sure she forgave him after he punched her in the face for sulking about it.

I can't disagree to be honest. I'm going to leave EE and take up stamp collecting.
