What to do with a 6600 i found...

Genuinely i mean found.

Drunk one night i picked up a 6600 in a taxi, i thought it was my mates. but his was safely in his pocket.

Anyway it wasn't and next morning it had been blacklisted.

I was looking through the memory card this weekend and noticed there were lots of pictures that the owner might want to keep, (including a few of his naked girlfriend, there's a lesson there.)

So i thought i'd be happy to send it to him. if i could get to the phone book i figured i'd call him. but the problem is, if i put in a sim it just says sim rejected cos of the black listing. and ofcourse the phone doesn't do anything with out a sim.

One of the things i'd concidered was either putting in a foreign sim, or going somewhere with no signal, so i could switch it on without the network telling it it was black listed.

anyone know if this would work???

I know someone who has their phone "stolen" every few months and phones up the network and gets a new one sent to her. She doesn't have insurance with the network either.

If it's been blacklisted I'd think he's already claiming on either phone or home contents insurance. Hand it in to the police is all I'd do. Or give it to the Taxi operator.

You could call the 'network' that they were using and quote them the serial number stored under the battery - if it's registered they will have the detials.

Just make sure that you find out if it is genuinely registered though as I was once asked to send a phone I'd found to orange that wasn't so I didn't - I took it to the cops.

A part of me wouldn't mind his girlfriend's number either....

I suppose i could call orange.

But i'd still like to know if there's a way i can access it, what does anyone think of my ideas?

@ flagpole

Trouble is, the network won't give you any info on the owner, or at least they shouldn't! (Data Protection Act)

They are more likely to ask who you are to establish who has the phone that has been reported as stolen.

Before the cops come looking for you, your best bet is to come clean and hand it over to them

That's true - they won't but they will tell you if it's registered and if they are able to forward it on.

Personally - i'd either contact the taxi firm asking if anyone has reported a phone missing or take it to the police.

That'll be worse, then you'll have Interpol knocking at your door.

you could go round all the local pubs showing the pictures and asking "has anyone seen this girl"

You could try popping the Sim card into a sim reader? (Second time ive suggested these this week, perhaps I shud start selling them!) I dont think that will mind if its blacklisted

I know on my old Sony Ericsson T300, you could use the infra red function to send the piccies to my sharp zaurus, so if you want to, you could....I think Nokia will probably have the same standard protocol.

Try to give it back to whoever owns it, if you can't do that - then donate it to charity.

You should hand it over to the police. You could get into quite seriously trouble if you try to sell it. The police will be able to return it to the owner/network as long as it is registered on menduk.org.uk .

You're no fun you lot.....

But still does anyone know if i find a place with no signal if the phone will let me access the menus????

Yes. It will most definitly work if you're hiding from a
transmitter....

I think the no signal thing will work
Another (remote) chance, if look in the hidden folder 'Backup' on the Memory Card - if there's a file inside, you could copy it onto another 6600 and restore the memory - including phonebook.

Then backup the photos and/or submit them to Zoo Magazine or something

Edit: On second thoughts - I thought if the phone was blocked, it would say 'Registration Failed'? And still let you use the phone - because that's what happened before Orange activated my new SIM when I upgraded. Have you tried another SIM?

Yeh i'm not using a cancelled sim, (though i may have one some where... but i can't think what i've done with his...) it's a working sim in a blacklisted phone.

Hey hey, you'll be pleased to know i got to the bottom of this....

I had one of those orange PAYG Sims that i hadn't registered. so it seems that if you put one of those in the phone can't tell it's black listed.

I now have the naked girl's number....

Take it to the police

i just had my phone knicked about 3 weeks ago and no F**Ker handed it in so i had to buy a new one

and if the phone was black listed it cant work on any uk network so either your havin everyone on or its not black listed

the only way you can use that phone on a uk network is to change the imei number WHICH IS NOT LEGAL

sorry if i come across abit angry but havin ure phone knicked aint funny and just think if you lost ure phone wid pics of ure girlfreind naked on it would you want someone else to keep them and the phone

1)How about you take it abroad?

2)Is the phone orange? Because if so, try putting a voda etc sim in it and it will say its locked, right? But it still lets you look at the menus....??

3)Have you tried connecting it to a PC?

4) I remember when my was lost stolen, they said if I found it, they could re-enable it for me....
I presume you managed to get the numbers off it by now? If so, hand the phone in, but ring the girl. So say you just turned it on and got her number before you handed it in

I am very tempted to contact the girl... But i think she may react badly. I have her work phone number, perhaps i could e-mail her...

As i think i mentioned i am using an Orange Sim which is not registered with the network. so i can access the phone but the phone can't contact the network and find out it's registered. so i'm not lying.

Actually a bit more one the girl, i've googled her, it seems she's a ballet dancer. that explains a lot.
