Keeley Hawes? Abslom Daak TV-canonised? A Shapeshifter? The Bank of Karabraxos? The Peter Capaldi Penguin Run?!

What could possibly go wrong?! Well... it is Steve Thompson's outing. Just kidding! Settle in for another week of reviews and previews!

Official BBC Synopsis:

Quote:
“The Doctor turns bank robber when he is given a task he cannot refuse – to steal from the most dangerous bank in the cosmos.

With the help of a beautiful shape-shifter and cyber-augmented gamer, the Doctor and Clara must fight their way past deadly security and come face to face with the fearsome Teller: a creature of terrifying power that can detect guilt…”

I have high hopes for this one. Really intrigued to find out what "The Teller" will be like. It looks fascinating.

As for Stephen Thompson, Curse of the Black Spot was meh, but I rather enjoyed Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS. Actually if Time Heist is anything like Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS, except with a bank, Keeley Hawes and a bizarre monster then I'll be very happy indeed.

Just checking - this one didn't leak right so I can actually look at the rest of the posts here unlike the other spoiler free reviews?

It did leak - but no spoilers have been posted in the other threads. Though some commented whether they liked it or not. Anything that shouldn't be here will be reported.

Has The Caretaker leaked or is Time Heist the last of the leaks?

The Caretaker screener was on the list - but the script wasn't and the video hasn't surfaced, to my knowledge.

Oh - still I prefer to be safe than sorry, I'll bow out for now then ....

I really dislike Doctor Who (I generally find it immature, silly, and the villains utterly comical in a bad way) but I've been growing progressively more curious about it since Capaldi came in. I saw the trailer for this episode and I'm actually considering watching it It makes a change to have two actors I like in the lead roles.

So far S8 is the biggest Easter Egg series yet. I squee'd a bit when I saw the Daak screen grab

The Capaldi Effect is real

I quite liked The Curse of the Black Spot for what it was, although it wasn't brilliant. I didn't much care for Journey to the Centre of the Tardis but I think that was more about the episodes topic than how it was written. As such, I have unexpectedly high hopes for this episode, and the Next Time trailer didn't diminish them. Hopefully I won't overhype myself for it, but I have to say it's the episode that looks to appeal to me most so far this year.

This is a pacy episode, a bit "Hustle" like!! Good comedy moments between Clara and the Doctor as well as some real drama between them. some further questioning of the Doctor's character. Keeley Hawes is excellent, a bit tongue in cheek at times, some of the performance and the tone of episode reminded me of "Partners in Crime" and Sarah Lancashire. "The End Of The World" in kinda tone and comparison, comedy drama. Dark and light.

I was a bit dissatisfied with the ending, overall a good strong episode. Wasn't completely sure about the monster, more aimed towards a younger audience in tone again.

Solid episode but could have its critics. Not a classic though, I didn't think.

I feel the same. I'm actually rather looking forward to some spoiler free reviews. I want to hear what some people think of this episode, because while it looks promising, I don't really have any idea of whether it will be good or not.

It's my favourite title of the first half, at least

So Keeley, who has the personality to play a truly awe inspiring goddess of a villain, is instead another panto baddie in a suit.

The way I watched it and how its written I felt there was a bit of camping it up in her role, I had watched "Line Of Duty" though!! She is in between tongue in cheek and dark villainess, but I had personally hoped for darker. A bit Joan Collins rather than DCI Linsey Denton, she's one of my favourite actresses but I didn't particularly feel she was best served by the script. I'd have rather seen her as "Missy" who I think is more sinister and memorable, multi layered, if we compare both characters.

I think this episode is a bit Marmite.

Peter and Jenna are very good with the comedy in the script between them. And also the dramatic tension in scenes through the episode.

Really looking forward to this episode, I actually really liked both The Curse Of The Black Spot and Journey To The Centre Of The Tardis. I hope keeleys character is a good one though because I think she's a great actress and loved her in 'Ashes to Ashes' and would hate for her to be underused.

I thought she was a bit underused in the plot to be honest, but I guess every scene she was in she was fantastic in and she features quite a bit, I wish they had saved her for a bigger more memorable recurring villainess. But then I felt Frances Barber was underused as well and they could have used her more.

I found the whole episode competent but generic.

A series of stock, single-function characters, ciphers really, that go through the motions and perform their function at the right moment.

I can't discern any 12th Doctor specific moments. The script seems like a leftover from a previous era.

The twists were fairly obvious and the end felt similar to an episode we saw last year.

It's entertaining but it felt old fashioned to me.

I'm hoping this is the weakest story of the series.

I have a strong suspicion that this will be some peoples favourite episode of the series.

It's a pretty solid story, but again the end will piss off a core of fans.

Being chased down corridors are back, so some fans should be happy about that!

To be honest, anyone could have played her part. She's deserves better then the character she was given here.

She should have been given a really major villain/goodie role.

Again..... Saying that, it's a solid episode... I enjoyed it.

Yer spot on there. The director chose her because he enjoyed working with her. I think I expect a lot from her after seeing her in "Line Of Duty" and she is very multi faceted as an actress, that she oozes Doctor Who villain to me. I was hoping for a few barbed scenes with Peter. Its another solid episode, and the best Steve Thompson has contributed to the show as I loathe the others he scribed unfortunately so was pleasantly surprised. I didn't enjoy the ending at all.

Funny thing is that last year there was a thread about making your own thirteen-episode series of Doctor Who (did I make that thread? I don't kno...), and one of the episodes that I made was one where the Doctor and Clara get involved in a bank heist.

This is exactly what I wanted, so I have really high hopes here.

Spoiler
Saw this episode. Probably my favorite of the 5. It's lighter, fluffier Filler Who done pretty much as well as it gets.

Though if you're familiar with Heist film/tv shows you could probably see where everything is going.

I've put it in spoilers just incase but I dont think I've said anything any spoiler-free review wouldn't. No specific plot details.
