Hi.
In January I bought my first HD television and, after some research, I plumped for a 3D LG model, the 32LA620V. I was very pleased indeed with the normal 2D picture quality, although I don't think we ever used the 3D capability.
All was super until, in August, only some seven months after purchase, the set started repeatedly switching itself off and on (re-booting), and so I had to get in touch with LG Support, who initially tried to repair the set (by installing a new power board, they said). When that repair didn't work, and I sent it back a second time, they 'gave up' and returned the set to me un-repaired, with an assurance they would issue me with an authorisation letter for getting a replacement or a refund from my retailer.
I really wanted a replacement 32LA620V, but since buying the set it had been discontinued by LG, and so the retailer was unable to replace it and I had to accept a full refund.
Apart from the re-booting fault, I had been extremely happy with the picture quality of the LG set, and so I wanted the exact equivalent current version of the set that I'd had. I rang LG to ask for advice on what the direct replacement was, but they were surprisingly vague on what it was.
And then I realised that, not having used the 3D side of the old set, I could perhaps save myself some money by having the non-3D equivalent of the set, which I was advised was 'likely to be' the 32LB580V.
So I bought a 32LB580V with the refund I'd received for the old set, saving myself nearly £150.00 in the process. But I have been extremely disappointed with it.
The picture on the replacement set is nowhere near as good as the one on the original, faces looking very flat with a sort of a 'pinky-grey' quality to them, and generally the pictures have a peculiar green and pink 'pastel' appearance. (The best I can describe it as is that it reminds me of that part of the film The Aviator that is supposed to look like an early colour process.) I have tried tweaking the settings a bit, but to no real avail.
Have LG TVs reduced in quality generally, or was my satisfaction with the picture on the old set a side-effect of having had a 3D capable one? In other words, should I have gone for another 3D set, even though we never watch 3D? Or do the newer LG TVs use a different display or something that results in a lower quality picture?
