iphone 6/6 plus insurance help

Hey,

Having never physically owned an iphone by myself before (except from work), what sort of insurance should I be getting?

I've heard applecare+ is a must....seeing it for £79 is quite a bit when first seeing it for the first time.

I had my iphone 4s for 2 and a half years and although I dropped it a few times, it didn't break (but then it was a work phone).

Also, I have gone for the iphone 6 plus. I'm just thinking that due to the size of it, if I use it whilst walking down the street in late evenings, someone could just grab it off me. I am not a person generally who tends to lose things per se but I am wondering whether I should go for insurance covering theft? As theft is not covered in applecare+?

But then the prices of theft insurance on the net for iphone5 seem to be so high running into the £100s.....so am so confused what to do.....what do people tend to do?
Any recommended providers? Mine is sim-free and not on contract. Have sim from virgin media on monthly. Thank you.

Never had any insurance or apple care on my iphones, or in fact any phone i've owned. If something goes wrong after a year, you should still in theory be able to get it fixed for free. People keep going on about the sale of goods act and you know if something breaks after a year, then its not really fit for purpose is it?

We have a premier account with Barclays and this includes various insurances such as travel, RAC, and gadgets which includes phones. I can't remember the exact details but I think it is insured after a period of time and you have to register it from the time of purchase. Maybe worth looking into.

It's 2 years on phones now due to some EU law.

This also.

My wife and I I have a joint account with Barclays which covers both of our phones for something like £6/month to upgrade the account.

There is an excess on claims (as there is all insurance) I think that's £100 for iPhones and £50 for all other phones.

When I read the coverage it's pretty good with world wide cover and did not have a problem claiming when my wife smashed the screen on her Moto G recently.

It's worth just getting a Barclays account and not even using it just for that (recently changed my main account to First Direct but decided to keep the Barclays joint account just for this).

Might be worth checking if your home insurance would cover damage/loss/theft.

No, it's not.

It comes up a lot that Uk electronics must have a 2 year warranty but that is not true.
