I can't imagine that they didn't ask him to return though. It would have been preferable for them not to recast. He obviously said not right now.

What about Richard Smith (3 years) and Christopher Smith (12 years ) - longer than Karl Davies (10years, 6mths and axed)? Karl Davies, although now much improved, was pretty hammy as Robert.

With jack gone and the family not really like they once were we might as well say this robert is a whole new character to much times past to accept a recast Robert

Personally I don't mind recasts especially if it has been a while. Dolly was recast as was Jack and Sarah and they all worked, mind you I preferred the old Dolly.

Karl was great as Robert, But I'm willing to give this new guy a chance, even if some of you won't.

Karl Davis was nothing special and has been absent for many years now. Personally I think a recast is perfectly acceptable. Robert is a very relevant character and part of the show original family who should be brought back.

recasts only annoy men when its a current character like Lucy in EastEnders a talented actress sacked basically for being a young woman that does what people her age did.

The Peter & Ben recasts don't bother me in the slightest

They obviously can't bring back the family because the likes of Jack and Sarah are dead.
All they can do is rebuild the Sugden name. In a while there could be 6 of them and 7 if you include Sarah.

Kate Ford is indeed fantastic as Tracey. Fantastic in a so bad she's great kind of way
furthermore her and Deidrie are the best soap mum and daughter partnership anywhere in soaps.A hilarious couple who's scenes light up any episode.

And what about the actor who played Robert before Karl Davies? He was much better.
