As we all know iOS 8 is about to be released to the masses tomorrow evening 6pm UK time. Rather than wait for the inevitable collapse of Apple's infrastructure I have taken the liberty to download the files for iPhones and upload them to Google Drive

These links are safe, as downloaded directly from Apple. However if you want to wait for the Apple update then by all means, just expect the next 48hrs after 6pm tomorrow will be very congested.

iPhone 5s Download

iPhone 5c Download

iPhone 5 Download

iPhone 4s Download

To update click on above link for your phone. will take you to a google drive page, click the download arrow at the top of the page.

Once downloaded connect your phone to iTunes......wait for the summary age of your device to show.

Hold down shift and click check for update, it will bring up a window search for the file you downloaded, confirm the next lot of options and it will begin the upgrade process.

As always do so at your own volition I am not responsible any problems.

Once again these are direct from Apple, they are final and no changes have been expected, seeing as this has been up since last tuesday.

EDIT: My apologies if you tried to download it seems privacy settings weren't made public should work now though.

I updated my 5c last week, and there were like 3 or 4 different update packages to download depending on the model just for the 5c... I have the A1529 version... here you've only provided one update for each... I can see people updating their phone with the wrong software and bricking...

These updates are windows users, unfortunately I don't have a mac and just to say it is a single file that is needed in which to update iOS through iTunes on Windows. I have done this on several of my devices and it worked great. Its an ipsw file which people are downloading, allowing them to upgrade manually thorugh iTunes.

In response to your version of the 5c yours is the Asia/Pacific variant which has a few more LTE bands than the European variant. Links here are for European iPhone models not devices from other regions.

I don't know why I have an Asian variant because my phone was purchased at an Apple store in London.

It seems Apple has been using up inventory from the far east, as it is compatible with European frequency ranges.

Explains the iPhone models and the differences, the one design for Europe was the A1507.

A friend has the same one as you, although they sourced their handset from Amazon and it clearly stated it was the chinese variant.

The GSM Asia Pacific version is the same but with a few extra LTE frequencies supported. So that's why they can sell it here.

Can this be upgraded via OTA when updates come out?

I am not a beta tester but from what i remember pre-release versions cannot be OTA upgraded like the final release. So how about this GM?

The GM won't update onto what releases tonight as it should be the same version. Any future releases will update OTA or through iTunes.

The only exception will be if Apple make any changes from the gold master to the final release. The last time that happened the final release was x.0.1 and again that should show up as an OTA update from the GM.

Are you sure that's the UK iPhone 5S file you linked to? Looks like it is for the iPhone 6,2 hardware string, which I believe is the CDMA variant. Isn't the GSM 5S supposed to be the iPhone6,1 hardware string? Another site listing the iOS 8 GM has them that way round at least, and a quick google seemed to suggest that to be the case. Think I will probably hold off until 6pm anyway and just take my chances with the Apple download servers!

Certainly appreciate what you've done OP, but I will probably hold off as well and do it through iTunes.

Aren't you covered both ways

I seem to remember the ipsw being either GSM or GSM + CDMA

So no matter which you install you are covered? But if you have a CDMA only phone through those U.S. carriers you can't install the GSM firmware on there because iTunes will error.

Given I'm going to get an iphone 6 soon and that I'm weak, I downloaded the OP's 4s files and did the upgrade.

1. Backed up phone in iTunes
2. Installed IOS 8 from downloaded file.
3. Heart sank as the "connect to iTunes" icon showed up! Windows had to reinstall some drivers automatically and then it went away.
4. iTunes verified the files, progressed with the update and then verified the update - all working perfectly!

Total time: aproximately 10 minutes

Thank you OP

Now to work out what exactly is new.......first glance it looks the same as 7.

It sounds like they've sorted out the weather issue. When i first got my iphone 4S the accuracy of my location was very impressive but after a few updates my local weather just says "London" now instead of showing my actual location.

Is this just the 4S - or APple's weather app?? I normally use BBC Weather and it always knows exactly where I am!

Having tried the Beta version, it mostly is the same as 7 but with some tweaks under the hood and a few additions here and there. You'll probably notice the new keyboard style more than anything, as well as the "recent contacts" icons at the top of the screen if you double tap the home button.

I've heard that the battery management has been improved as well but this obviously remains to be seen.

It's just the 4S's weather app. I also use the BBC app and it's always accurate. Apparently they've switched to the weather channel to provide weather for ios8.

Are the people saying "don't put ios8 on your 4S" regular critics who like to moan about everything?
