It seems quite a sensible precaution. Other applications for NFC are simply noise, there is no motivation or need, for Apple to open it up. Is there anything that apple will do that you wont defend?

This is stupid of apple, but nothing new. Why did they even bother to announce NFC? Why not just announce apple pay? Apple pay may use NFC, but since the user cant use it, for anything else, its not a feature of the phone. I guess they were just trying to tick as many boxes as they could. Its what happens when you are playing catchup.
So the iphone 6 and Nexus 4 comparison is wrong, as the iphone 6 doesnt have NFC...hopefully iphone 8 might.
