Calico it's worrying how much you feel the need to stick up for Apple, I just don't get why you care so much. You don't need a phone at all as you obviously have no friends to be on this forum 24/7 to attack anyone who doesn't share the same opinion as you about Apple products. Get a life mate.

So what are the killer NFC apps on Android?
The fact is that it remains a niche feature. |

Calico. Do you immediately spew out the same phrases ? My post was talking about the development of a "killer app" not any existing one. Please at least read the posts before returning your standard rhetoric .....
Given that there is no such restriction on Android, I was asking about the killer apps that are available on Android? |

All I did was say that NFC is still a bit of a niche feature / technology - hardly attacking anyone, or standing up for Apple. Want to put your money where your mouth is and quote what you feel was my most vicious attack on anyone in this thread? |

I guess we are back to it being pointless anyway

There is a totally different way of looking at this instead of the knee jerk Apple bashing that is going on as usual.
If I had 500 million credit card details at risk, and want to build a reputation for those details being kept secure, I think I would want to lock down the technology that makes the whole thing work as tightly as possible. It seems quite a sensible precaution. Other applications for NFC are simply noise, there is no motivation or need, for Apple to open it up. It has already been accepted on this forum that there are no meaningful applications currently that really require NFC to be in the phone.

"Tribal rants"? Seriously, where do you get this stuff from?
Any chance you could post one of these "tribal rants" to refresh our memories? And no-one said it was pointless either. It's not about how much you, me, tdenson or anyone uses it. The point is that it remains a niche feature and isn't something high on the average person's wish list of features they look for when getting a phone. It doesn't matter if its a niche feature. So is MMS and sending files via bluetooth yet every single phone apart from the iphone does that. The thing that makes me laugh is, you have absolutely no idea how many people use it or not. You guess, then backed up by your 2 pals who think it's equally useless you then rubbish the many people on here who did say they uses it. Which incidentally were more than you 3 who don't!! Oh, and tdenson claimed anything other than apples way for NFC was just noise. In other words pointless/rubbish. You yourself have claimed its useless. So don't sit and tell me no one has said it. |

Thanks for your concern Scott. Fortunately it turns out there is no correlation between posts made on a forum and number of friends someone has.

Must be a difficult decision for the manufacturers.
Do you use NFC to provide a secure mobile payment system, or do you use it to 'bump' phones together to exchange a photo. Tricky one. |

NFC can be used for payments, oyster payments, sending info, to connect to soundbars like mine, many Bluetooth speakers, washing machines etc. The list is endless. Just because you refuse for some weird reason to see its uses, does not mean you are correct in this debate. We have already done this and you were told by many people what they use it for, but you refuse to accept it. So, since every single manufacturer puts in NFC and allows people to use it any way they see fit, why not apple? Why are they always the ones who leave things out? |

Guessing again I see!!
It's a complete guess that NFC hasn't taken off in any meaningful way, and a complete guess that most people don't cite NFC as an important feature when buying a phone. It's a wild stab in the dark that most people use their phones mostly for calls, texts, photos, web browsing and playing games, and using NFC features is still a niche use. Are you actually disagreeing with that? |

I did think you were a bit more intelligent than this to be honest.

So, since every single manufacturer puts in NFC and allows people to use it any way they see fit, why not apple? Why are they always the ones who leave things out? The argument has always been that it's use remains niche by a minority of users. I'm sure you can use NFC to get your phone to talk to your washing machine. But I question how much importance or value people place on being able to do that. |

I'm pretty sure you will remember just fine since you were the loudest as always.

But absolutely no recollection of any "tribal rants". If you're going to post melodramatic nonsense like that, don't expect not to get called on it. So can you post an example or not? I would be pretty sure it's a lot further down the pecking order than the examples above. IIRC there was a link to a survey posted before where 4% of people cited NFC as a feature they wanted their new phone to have. tdenson didn't make a distinction between Apple and anyone else. I took it to be between NFC for payments, and NFC for other things. Things like your washing machine example. And no - at no point did I ever say it was useless. Would you please stop misquoting people? Or, put your money where your mouth is and post where I said that. |

What a daft way to look at it. Google wallet had no security issues and they use NFC payments a lot in the states. I used it here as well on my nexus 4.
