I might do this late at night then when the Euro servers might be quieter.
I would have skipped it but I know it adds extra scenes to the game, but I don't know to where exactly, and I didn't want to miss them. But I'm 5 hours in and I dont think I have.

Is the tutorial compulsory? I played a bit of that this morning before having to head out but would rather just get into the game & learn as I go
You can skip it. When you finish a section it gives you the option to just start the game. Maybe if you press start it'll be in there too.

I have no clue about this FF game as the last one I played was the terrible one with Lightning from about 7/8 years ago. I found that one incredibly boring and never finished it.
Is the new one an improvement? My favourite FF game of all time is FFX so I'm hoping this new one would be more similar to that with the story being more character driven rather than a boring political driven one.

I have abolutely no idea what I am doing. None. The combat is weird, I jst don't get it. The block / dodge / party that you learn in the tutorial rarely works. The dash move from high seems a bit pointless, I'm probably doing it wrong. I also seem to just be roaming about killing things (very infrequent things in pretty but rather empty landscape) while my car gets fixed with 3 hipsters following me about. Not overly impressed.

Are you holding the defend button? It's almost garunteed block and parry. I will admit the game play has a steep curve but when it comes together it feels really good.

I feel a bit overwhelmed with the amount of things to do. I have the strategy guide and there is stuff hidden everywhere. Enemies are sparse though.

I think so, I tend to end up rolling about and get clobbered for some reason.

This is one of those games that I'll watch online, think "this looks insane and weirdly bad" yet the more I watch it the more appealing it seems to get.

After 5 hours or so I'm liking this a lot.
The combat is a bit jarring at first, it's not what I'm used to from FF. But it is slick and after a few battles it becomes a little easier.
The different weapons do feel distinct.
I tried fighting a pack of dog/wolf things and a flock of bird/raptor things about 5 levels higher joined in and two of party died.
Don't take on enemies too high above you. Check!
Levelling a bit more before going after the Goblin for my first hunt.

The scenery is beautiful and the cinematic parts are incredible.

Is there a way to win At Justice Monsters? It just keeps going and going. I got bored at lvl 19.

I've put 10 hours into this so far. Chapter 3. Going to try and slow down as Im building up a backlog of quests.

BTW certain campsites have side quests that can earn you AP. something I noticed when stopping at a campsite a bit out of the way.

I've just started chapter 3. I loved Chapter 2. Things are beginning to shape up nicely now.

Danger Close - that Justice Monsters game just goes on and on. It never foreskin ends. It got to. Point where I had to intentionally kill myself but that's even harder than it seems. Uugh, and to think I was going to download the android version. Not now.

So.....me and my three bros (who stick out like the biggest sorest thumb of all time) are travelling to a wedding which is the key to cementing an uneasy truce between two warring nations (I think) yet I'm spending my time hunting scorpions for some rednecks, taking photos and catching fish for a very picky cat for some reason. I have played every Final Fantasy game in the main series and this is by far the most bizarre opening couple of hours out of any of them. I'm not saying I hate it or anything but it's really, really not what I was expecting. I like Western RPGs as much as the next girl but hopefully the effort has gone into the main experience and not inane "real world" sidequests.

That's not bad. You could probably get it cheaper from Amazon or somewhere but you'd be waiting a week for it.

I'm calling it a day.

Chapter 3 - 12 hours in - level 20

It is very good.
In Chapter 1 I thought the area was very bland and empty but the areas get busier as you progress so that's fine.
I like the story but I wonder if people hadn't watched Kingsglaive, would they be completely lost as I feel that film sets up the game and they fairly rush through the back story.
I wish the voice actors were consistent through the film and game. Don't understand why they changed them.
The battle system is fine, but can be a bit painful at times when Noct warps to a wrong place or just doesn't defend but when it does come together, it's great.
I love the magic, I love collecting it and combing it with things to create other magic. Fantastic system.
The Regalia is awesome.e. I want one. And I love the music in the car. Nothing like cruising around Eos listening to Aeris' Theme.
Best part so far is the dungeon at the end of Chapter 2. Loved it. Quite eerie.

So yeah, I'm enjoying it despite it not been perfect. So far is say it's a return to form for the franchise. Can't wait to get stuck into it more tomorrow.

Just rythmaticly tap the x button and use the multiballs for the bosses. if you time your presses right the spins on the wheel will all ways match up so you get a lot of tresure chests. I got to 99 in about 40 mins of playing.
here is the list of rewards

Justice Monsters Five 10 Gil Rewards
Number of Treasure Chests -- Reward
2 -- Potion
5 -- Hi-Potion
10 -- Elixir
15 -- Hi-Elixir
20 -- Garnet Bracelet
25 -- Carbon Bangle
30 -- Amethyst Bracelet
35 -- Titanium Bangle
40 -- Mega Phoenix
45 -- Sapphire Bracelet
50 -- Gold Bangle
60 -- Oracle Earring
70 -- Ruby Bracelet
80 -- Platinum Bangle
90 -- Emerald Bracelet
99 -- Celestriad

Justice Monsters Five 10,000 Gil Rewards
The super-deluxe JMF machine near Alessio in Altissia costs a whopping 10,000 Gil per game. Not surprisingly, the rewards are far better than you’ll find in the regular machine.
Number of Treasure Chests -- Reward
5 -- Hi-Potion
10 -- Mega Phoenix
15 -- Ruby Bracelet
20 -- Platinum Bangle
25 -- Emerald Bracelet

I'm calling it a night too. About 15 hours in and just got to Chapter 3. I can already see this new area has loads more enemies than the previous chapters.

My only complaints so far are that the side-quests seem too much alike and Combat can be a bit finicky, especially the warping. You'll want to button-mash but dont, you'll die.

I strongly advise taking your time to learn the battle system and watch Kingsglaive if you haven't already - you'll probably be lost story-wise if you dont.

I'm finding the combat system abit too button mashy for my liking. I've pretty much been spamming circle and square with the occasional L1 combo in every fight. Doesn't seem like the witcher or bloodborne where you can see signs of when the enemy is going to attack and dodge accordingly. Not really understanding the rankings either, I rarely get a decent finesse ranking, unless it's a longer fight with tougher enemies, but then my D in finesse will switch to a D in time.

The wilderness in chapter 1 so far has been dead too, unless I'm going to a hunt there's virtually nothing there. But it sounds like that improves as you progress through the game. I did run into a gang of level 20 bombs and a 30 iron giant when I was looking for a dog tag in the dark though, being level 8 at the time I got away from there as soon as I could.

I'm 5 hours in, and level 10 at the moment and despite the above criticisms I'm enjoying the game. I've done about 8 hunts, found 2 tags and leveled up Nocts fishing too. I'm trying not to progress through the main story too quickly, going to do as much of the side quests as possible and get as much out of the game as I can.

Not many old FF fans are going to like the combat although it's arguable that the slow turn based combat of old is way past its sell by date. Yeah the temptation is to button mash as you don't get much time to think mid combat. Still as long as I can scramble my way past enemies, I know I'm going to enjoy the world.

You are not alone. That's exactly how I'm finding it/playing at the moment.

Ditto. Im just not enjoying this at all just now (probable halfway through chapter 2) but will stick with it until end of chapter 3 to see if it gets any better.

I find the combat to be a mess with no real idea what's going on or when I've been hit. The camera doesn't help here either as it keeps swinging about, even if I'm locked on to enemies.

The characters aren't likeable and the get in the way quite often. Their voice acting is horrendous but I'm going to have another look to see if I can change it to Japanese with English subtitles.

The environments are big but sparsely populated with not a lot of interactivity in them.

I'm finding the graphics to be pretty poor in places, especially when I went to the harbour. The water was just flat blue a lot of the time, like how it would've loooed back when the game started development.

The story doesn't engage me either. I don't know if it's because I don't care much for the characters or if it's just not very good.

It feels like it's a JRPG trying to add western RPG elements to it but not really succeeding in being good at either of them

I bought this on a whim after seeing the high scores it was receiving and the fact that I bought Watchdogs 2 for cheap on Amazon but it was going to take a week to arrive so I cancelled it. Probably should've just waited on that.

Like I said, I'll give it til the end of chapter 3 to see if I find it any better but after 6 hours, I would've hoped it would've clicked by now.

There is no need to button mash btw. Just holding the buttons works. It makes defend and parry very easy to pull off. Holding square will make you miss most attacks at the cost of mp. I think there are a few timedays maneuvers but you can get away with just holding a lot of the time.

This game is frankly odd. I'm not sure how much i'm enjoying it, if at all.

- Combat manages the seemingly impossible of being both terribly simplistic and highly confusing. After a couple of hours I found out I merely have to hold down the attack button and all of a sudden every fight since have been oh so easy. But while i'm doing this the camera is swinging round all over the place and god knows what my 3 teammates are doing. So i'm winning fights without having a clue what is actually going on in the fight - just holding attack.

- Magic attacks. Such a staple of the FF is reduced to a sub role, I'm hoping this will change as the game progresses.

- Voice acting - Ugh. I know this is a staple of FF complaints but it's still very jarring, even more so when my three campanions are such blantant stereotypes (the strong one, the smart one and the comic relief). In fact they are basically the Teenage Mutant Turtles with Noct taking the Leo Leader role.

- Open world. It's pretty but so far it's not been all that inspiring exploring, feels barren.

All in all it's been a pretty underwhelming first handful of hours, but there have been a couple of magic FF moments which gives me hope.

The start of chapter four is epic! I suggest anyone having doubts play through the story missions until the first bit of chapter four. Proper old school FF feeling
