It's actually Musical Theatre Actress Maria Friedmann - such an odd choice as Friedmann is Swiss and only 54!

It's a shame it's just a guest role as I thought they would want to make that role a little more permenant

Sounds great. Hope she has a brother called Neville and a sister-in-law called Belinda. Would be a fun connection.

It's a guest role, so can we please give the moaning about the Carters a rest for one thread, and it's one that is required for the storyline.

Anyway, it's an interesting casting choice. So both Mick and Linda's parents were quite young when they had them, I hope we find out more about Mick and Linda as teenage parents, it's a side that hasn't been fully addressed yet.

Haha. That would be good actually, as Kat is probably the one that can understand what Linda is going through the most.

it's refreshing having a face that is not familiar from other TV shows and she does have the look of Linda.

So this seems to confirm that Linda doesn't tell anyone about the rape, at least not straight away.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting Elaine, but I think it's the right decision that she is a guest character and not a regular.

Glad Linda's mum is coming into it, I thought she would, shame its just for a guest role, never heard of the actress though, what has she been in?

Tbh the new characters are getting a little tedious now, dtc has introduced way too many! Some have been really good, some have been very poor.

However, linda is one of my favourite characters to have ever been on the show and aw plays the queen vic landlady perfectly! Hopefully, her mum will be just as good! So I am looking forward to this one! I'd cut out a few carters first though, there's no need for them all, there's so many! They've been overused this summer, but now they're actually getting some decent stuff it will be interesting to see how it all pans out! They do need to get rid of some of the carters though, there well too big IMO, some of them are great though!

I'd like to see dtc bring back some big names now! Such as barbera windsor, nina wadia, charlie Brooke's etc...

The Carters are criminally underused, hopefully this will go some way to rectify that.

She's a West End legend, been in The Woman in White, Chicago, Ragtime, The King and I and more.

She also directed "Merrily We Roll Along" a Stephen Sondheim musical last year which got the most 5-star reviews than any other West End musical in history.

Many, many years ago Maria was in Casualty, as Charlie Fairhead's girlfriend ....

I've met her quite a few times - she is a lovely, lovely lady.

Wow I'm very surprised Maria Friedman is to play Elaine I didn't think she'd ever do EE. An absolute acting legend I've no doubt she'll be amazing in the role. At 54 she is very young to be playing Linda's mum I was expecting an actress in their 60s or even 70s to be Elaine.

Her son Drew Peacock won't make much of an impact with the ladies.
