Leave Bt As A Price Increase Is On It's Way

Just to let everyone know bt will have a price increase on the 1st of December. You will be getting a letter soon saying you can leave bt. If you don't ring up and say you heard about a price increase. I got mine today and left. I have moved over to sky where 1571 and caller id are free. So if i was you leave today before its too late. It doesn't matter if your in contract you can leave today.

The increase only applies to the line rental so can you still leave if you also have BB ?

BT get right on my nerves, 12 months contract for line rental and 18 months for broadband so everything is staggered. A**eholes

Yes i have both phone and broadband with bt. You can leave even if you just one month in to your contract.

The only time I've been without the internet for that long was when the old telephone system cables used to get nicked, and that was quite often.Not BT's fault then, and doesn't happen now with FTTC.

Have you tried the BT Forums as they are pretty good with advice,and assistance?

My BT contracts are up in mid January.
I got phone, Infinity and some BT Youview TV services with them.
When you look at what the price increase will be when you get to the BT price site and put in your account number it don't list the BT TV price increase. Just what your Broadband/calls package will go up by.

I once posted a question on BT Forums when my broadband was down. I did not get one reply. Very helpful when you ring up and get send to India when its only 12pm on a weekday!

When you contact BT (india or whoever) they're the people who organise the investigation for you, line check & engineer visit etc.

What's the problem, aside from you being very negative of BT?

So just to clarify, I can leave, mid contract with no penalty as a result of this? I despise BT. Going with them has been the worst decision we've made...

I highly doubt that's true. BT aren't going to just let people out of their contracts just because they want to leave.

I left them last week due to the line rental going up, would have been paying £31 all in for their line, and 6mb Broadband on Skys LLU.

Switched to Skys line (which is only £15.40 a month), and their up to 38mb Fibre broadband, where for the first 6 months i'll only be paying £25.40 all in (saving £36), and then only £35.40 after that all in, an increase of £4.40 a month, but a much faster speed, as im getting the full 38mb.

BT became a private company in 1984 and so profit like any private company became the prime objective. You won't make a lot of profit if you upgrade all the old cables/wires, some will be aluminium sitting there for 40+ years ... so they don't do it as a rule.
I am a case in question, a corroded aluminium wire in a junction box that had not been looked at since the place was built (1970) , fixed and all fine after a 2-3 year problem with phone and broadband.

As long as they own the network (most of it) they will always hold to ransom the subscribers whether they are with BT or all the other ISP's using their cables.

You would think that BT who own the network would be able to offer the cheapest line rental but as usual that is not the case, why ? ... because they are and always were very greedy.

The 'come back to BT' letters are fewer and fewer in the 10-12 years since I left them.

Cheap offers are a special case, they all do them for new customers - and beware!

Sky TV Sports bundles increased prices by about 6% this year and it's a matter of time before they too hike broadband, line rental etc.

IIRC, Sky no longer offer the annual Rental Saver like BT, or if they do you have to dig very deep to find it. This means that for most people, BT rental (via Saver) is cheaper than Sky.

Worst of all, Sky's T&Cs allow them to increase prices by up to 10% a year and with no contract escape clause - if they do that next year, and you are in contract, you are stuck with it. Swings, roundabouts. They are all out to screw you, to pay for exorbitant Premier League fees, only the exact methods vary.

Incidentally, if you are on Sky Fibre, they use the same Openreach lines as BT so your speeds should be the same. If you've done better, that's probably down to pure luck when your exact same lines from the 'exchange' were switched over to use Sky's backfeed and billing. There must have been an unresolved issue when with BT.

Yes you can, ofcom state that if prices increase and you were not made aware before entering the contract you can leave.

I have made the move after 6 months with them.

That's because BT voluntarily allow people to do it if they raise prices. Sky do not (unless they increase prices by over 10% in any one year).

The OFCOM 'escape' ruling relates to price increases within 12 months of the last one so it wouldn't apply to Sky unless they shorten their usual 12 monthly price rise round. The Sky '10%' condition is grossly unfair and has been for many years, the last time inflation reached 10% was in 1990!

It may not look much but it works well. I've had mine for 10 months no problems at all.

Yes, agreed. It seems to do the job well. Dual band as well. I'd say it's cut above what most ISPs give away.
