That's not so, surely? Line Rental is up by a £1 per month and my Unlimited ADSL BB is up also by a £1 per month. In addition, my Anytime Calls Add-On in up by 45p per month and so that makes my quarterly DD up by just over £7. Annoying but so what, it's not worth changing for a few quid.

Engineer visit lol openreach deal with that another one of bt scams. I hate the customers service. At the start of this year i have had bad attitude down the phone. My contract finish with BT 12 months ago and i was automatically renew when all i did was change to unlimited any time call. At this point i was lock into an 18 month contract. Do you really think this is fair.

Sadly for BT if they raise prices mid contract then they have to inform people of this. They also have to allow people to leave

Funny that been with sky for over 14 years now. I have 3 HD+ boxes sports and movies and now a land line and broadband and i pay £60 a month. Sky are just the best at offers. Never had BT ring me and offer me a good package. You must remember that all this price increase are down to FREE BT SPORT. Your caller ID, 1571 and now line rental. All in all nothing is free with BT.

It's just I'd read on the Think Broadband forums that unless you had the letter they weren't letting you go. Or at least they let people without letters go initially, but then stopped.

My email states that you have to inform them that if you wish to leave you need to respond within 30 days of the date of the email.
Done this, they even knocked a tenner of what I'm paying now but still didn't match Sky so I'm off, mis-informed twice in the past (my own fault probably), have to cancel sports separately.

I've no reason to leave, and as for the price hike? well, what you pay is what you get.
Over the last 11 months I've had excellent speeds all the time, extremely reliable, never once needed to contact support.
Broadband and phone, though all I want is the broadband. Can't get Virgin Media here.

Are they staggering when the emails are sent out? I haven't received one (or a letter)

My bt broadband was up for renewal and I didn't like their online renewal - it was £18 a month, plus £15.99 line rental (up to 16.99 in Dec for all ) also , I currently pay £5.48 for anytime calls , so I called them and asked for a better rate .

The line rental is the same for all , the anytime calls have gone up to £7.50 a month BUT I got them to do my broadband for £10 .65 a month for 12 months instead of £18 online .

I recommend calling them to see what they will do for you ( same for hotels , don't just go through the internet , you get a much better rate when you call the hotel )

Well I phoned them up and asked for my MAC. I said it was because of the price rise and they gave me it, so looks like it should be fine.

At the end of the call I made sure there is no penalty for leaving, they said no, as long as I've received notification of the price rise. I checked my last bill online and there was a link at the bottom about the price rises, so I'm taking that as the notification. Fingers crossed that's acceptable and they don't try to sting me with the remaining months of my contract.

Signed up to Sky fibre. No MAC required in the end. £10/month for 12 months + £110 cashback via Quidco. Hopefully all goes well.

All BT offered me was a downgrade to BT Infinity 1 for £23/month, which is the standard price. So I politely declined. They said that because I was still in contract they couldn't offer anything better.

It seemed they were knocking about £10 of the broadband for me but I jumped. This was at the foot of my email.

"You can find out about helpful ways to save money on your bill by giving us a call. If you want to leave BT because of these price changes, you need to call us within 30 days of getting this letter to give us 30 days' notice to avoid incurring early termination charges. The notice will start from the day you call, and we'll charge you as normal during that time.

Do you need to phone them to cancel? Can I keep my existing number? My service has been reliable but the price rises especially with line rental saver and charging for caller display and voicemail etc is enough.

I want to move to Post Office Home phone £120 for line rental saver and £5 odds for anytime calls (Saving nearly £2) and get fibre broadband only from plus net for £22.49 so basically the same as I'm getting just now but cheaper!

Ring and ask for your MAC. This will allow you to move seamlessly to your new isp. BT ended up giving me a discount. I got unlimited BT infinity 1 for £15/month (12 months), so I stayed.

You can leave because when they increase prices mid contract it's a variation of contract and that effectively cancels the original contract if you don't agree to the new terms.

You have to agree the new terms therefore either by explicit agreement or action (ie doing nothing and continuing to use the service thereby indicating you're just accepting them). If you do that, your contract continues on the new price terms.

If you indicate that you reject the increase by contacting them and telling them you won't accept them and want to leave, then the contract ends and you're free to leave.

BTW, so far as line rental is concerned if BT increase line rental then usually line rental increase across all providers as they have to buy the line rental off BT so if BT increases the wholesale price, they're forced to increase their line rental charges as well.

Other charges are down to the individual providers when they are local loop unbundled (ie the ISP owns the equipment in the exchange not BT).

It's not only been BT staggering line rental and BB contracts, their sub division PlusNet have done this as well.

I'm planning on making the switch to Sky in the next week or so. Is it as simple as ringing them up, telling them I want to leave and asking for my MAC before signing up with Sky? Will there be any disruption of service?

Wholesale line rental prices are regulated and have actually gone down over the last few years. The reason others seem to follow BT with increases is basically because they can get away with it.

Knew BT would cock-up. Last bill showed a cancellation charge Called up and spoke to someone pleasant and now all sorted. Should be £17 in credit.

I'm thinking of leaving BT because of the price increases to line rental and broadband. However, I have a BT Youview box contracted until January - has anyone with Youview cancelled and if so did they have to buy out the TV package?

i cancelled youview at same time as my line rental and infinity as tv is going up by about 50p aparrantly a month i think he said altogether about 3 pound a month extra.so they let me out of that as well.got mac code on fifth day now waiting to join plusnet

I am a BT customer as well. Unfortunately for me, I live in a rural area in Kent. In our area, we are all at the mercy of BT for our broadband. There are no other providers for us down here because we are too far away from the exchange. Our speeds are really slow and forget things like BT Infinity, I'll be dead when that gets here! BT has the monopoly here.

I also hate the fact that I never use my landline for sending or receiving telephone calls, (mobile phones nowadays), but I still need to have it in order to get broadband.

I just wish I could ditch BT completely and just use the internet with my mobile provider (o2 in my case), but of course, you're restricted due to your monthly allowance. I can't get broadband on my mobile down here anyway. Other than upping sticks and moving house, I can't win.

If I ditched BT and managed to just use my mobile service provider (if I could a decent signal), and was careful and strict with my internet usage, I would save a whopping £150.00 every quarter from BT!

Same here. BT replaced my Home hub 3 when it "died" and the replacement HH5 has been very stable.
