Max is already getting it off the wimpy cop dealing with Lucy's murder, doubt he has designs on Stacey currently.
ok he's been known to ditch one woman for another but this feels like an overreaction to a throwaway comment.
They teased us with Stax when Stacey first came back and it didn't happen, she ran out on him, I don't think shes interested anymore and hasn't been for years. On her part it was mostly a revenge thing for Bradley dumping her.
Whitney has or had the twins that's why she wasn't staying there. And Carol has only just been given the all-clear having had major surgery so it makes sense that she'd go to Max's where there's also room.

It's inevitable for two reasons...
1. Both have history together.
2. Max gave Stacey a job.
Stacey and Max will always have a bond after everything they have been through. He is her ex (due to the affair they had years ago) and she was married to his son. He is her best friend and a father figure (since her own dad is dead) and was once her father in law. I doubt anything will happen but if somewhere down the line they do get together I want it to be a proper relationship which is not based completely on sex, leading to marriage but that's if they went down that route.
I just had a thought - what if Max fell down and hit his head and got amnesia and then fell I n love with Stacey (forgetting their past), Stacey reciprocated and they had a proper relationship like she and Bradley did long ago? Just a thought.
