2 Broke Girls SD is £14.99 on iTunes to download, but the physical DVDs on Amazon are £10. Surely the digital downloads should be cheaper? Doesn't make any sense.

Some of it's likely to be pricing being set by the content providers but if you're a company who holds physical copies of DVD's and they're not selling, you'll be motivated to lower the price to get rid. There's just not that same mentality with a digital file.

I find purchasing films digitally in the UK tremendously frustrating. There's a good few services about but they're all restricted to pricing set by the British Film Industry and so nobody goes lower than £3.49 (or 4.49 for supposed "HD") rental of recent releases. Meanwhile I can use Unotelly to login to Vudu (owned by Wallmart US) and rent more recent films at $3.99 which works out a bit more than £2.

There's not enough being done IMO to convince a generation of people now growing up torrenting and illegal streaming, to start buying legal.

Its the same with digital copies of console games, I assume the same problem they have is the same as movies. If iTunes etc started selling films etc cheaper than the rrp, the retailers would be up in arms and refuse to sell the hardware.

It will only change when companies like Amazon who produce the hardware and also sell it, so don't really care about the retailers start dropping the prices.

Convenience and studio (rather than retailer) controlled pricing.

I know a few people who buy the physical boxset to watch then flog them again when they are done, getting their money back.

I used to do that as a teenager in HMV, when all it took was "I didn't like it" to return a VHS/DVD. I definitely stretched credibility when I returned each season of Sopranos in order with the same excuse, however it always worked!
