Yes, and believe me, never was the word "gay" more inappropriately applied.

Yep. Like Brendan in Hollyoaks, everything about that character was hated and then as soon as it was announced the character would be outed as gay and get in a relationship with Ste, everybody suddenly loved him and found his panto villain and village people moustache appealing.

That's nonsense. Well, it doesn't apply to me anyway. I thought Brendan's early stuff, when he was scamming Mal and Mercedes and everyone else, was brilliant. Like Ross, he was a right ****** at the start, but that didn't stop him being funny and bad and bringing a new energy to the screen.

Finding out he was in the closet was just another dimension. Brendan was always going to be a bit of an awesome character, because the actor was so good. There was nothing panto about him.

For every person who only likes a character because they are gay there are five who will continually claim that a popular gay character is only popular because they are gay.

Not sure which is more tedious.

I loved Brendan, hate Aaron, with a passion, and have no really strong feelings either way about most other gay soap characters.

Get a new argument.

The reason I hate Aaron is because he is dull, deathly, deathly dull, and shallow, and self obsessed and quite stupid and rude.

I found the recent Edna confessional stuff pretty cringy but the actor who plays Aaron genuinely looked like he was thinking about what to have for his tea, not a flicker of any kind of emotion crossed his face.

And as for being hot, I prefer my sex symbols to be human rather than lumps of wood with a face drawn on them.

Aaron was Emmerdale's Stacey but he didn't make anywhere near the same impact. The best they could come up was a gay angst story with suicide attempt, an assisted suicide story, and a self-harm story. The first was kind of good but the latter two stories flopped spectacularly. In terms of acting there's a gulf between the two in her favour.

And my little rant wasn't me having a go at Danny Miller, he is no De Niro but he was perfectly pleasant on Scott and Bailey, it was purely aimed at the fun sucking waste of space that is Aaron.

I've only seen the last two episodes that Stacy was in as i took a break from EE for a number of weeks and i have to say she seemed ok. I have never been a big fan of her but yeah she seemed bearable and more likeable. Lets see if it lasts lol

Aslong as he's got a lump of wood downstairs, that will do me.

Any time spent with Adam is too long, just look at what it's done to his mothers hair.

Same could be said for Aaron, looking at Chas's fringe.

Exactly, I started watching this show again when he scammed Carmel McQueen as a drug mule. I remember reading how daft the character was and how the show was still awful to watch. Suddenly he became revealed as a closet gay and suddenly he wasn't panto but a great actor. Same with Richardson, soon as he was announced gay he became the 'oaks beater to star of the show and every the show "represents"

Annoying that sexuality suddenly makes characters interesting and actors think their Robert De Niro.

Sorry I don't agree there was a phase were turning characters gay seemed the easiest solution to win fans over, except Sean Tully.
