psychic projection

Just beeb thinking about the *monster* from listen, do you think that it could have been a psychic projection from the doctor, a manifestation of his own fear?

Theoretically, I would say yes but it would be a hell of a stretch to have it account for the missing quilt and all of the noises around the time-ship - plus it's always risky attributing new powers to the Doctor - it annoys fans and can confuse even the most casual viewer. On top of that, it rather pre-supposes that the Doctor is suddenly incredibly scared of a bogeyman that he's never even mentioned in the previous 2,000 years - and I'm not comfortable with the Doctor suddenly being portrayed a the galaxy's biggest wimp.

My initial thought a second after we saw it was that is was somehow actually the doctor himself from another point in his time stream and either there intentionally or by accident as the light in question looked like the light of the Eccleston / Tennant sonic screwdriver.

Not knowing at that point that the episode was set up to be ambiguous I wondered whether we would get a scene later on in the episode where Capaldi had found an old copy of a Tennant era sonic in the TARDIS and for some reason either accidentally or for a reason, ending up going back to that scene and scaring his past self, Clara, and Rupert.

Odd that you mention that sonic.

Within that entire section, we saw AND HEARD the Doctor use his sonic a number of times - BUT we also saw a couple of things such as the TV "switching itself off" which were obvious candidates for having been sonic'd but we neither saw nor heard it.
