Adele did a great cover of a Bob Dylan song.
Which one? The only cover I've heard is her appalling version of Make You Feel My Love.

I thought that Don't Let It Go To Your Head by Jordin Sparks was an original track for quite a long time.
I think that's understandable, as Fefe Dobson isn't exactly that well known.

All Along The Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix,
Just Like A Woman, With God On Our Side & If You Gotta Go Go Now - Manfred Mann,
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall - Bryan Ferry,
Mr. Tamborine Man - The Bryds,
It's All Over Now Baby Blue - Joan Baez,
You're No Good - The Swinging Blue Jeans,

All of the above were originals by Bob Dylan.
Agree with all except
"You're No Good" is a song written by Clint Ballard, Jr. which first charted for Betty Everett in 1963 and became a #1 hit in 1975 for Linda Ronstadt.

That didn't click with me because I'm not aware of The Swinging Blue Jeans.

Yes, the Betty Everett version is great and Dionne's late sister Dee Dee Warwick also had a wonderful cut of it which is the original.

You live and learn. I never knew that. Thanks. I love learning about where a song comes from.

Spotted on my YouTube subscriptions today:

-> New Boy Band sing Leona Lewis' Run.
-> New Girl Group sing Lily Allen's Somewhere Only We Know.

So I guess neither Snow Patrol nor Keane (respectively) had hits WITH THEIR OWN SONGS now, because they didn't make higher than the cover version.

I believe most people know that Alexandra Burke's version of "Hallelujah" was a cover. But I bet they didn't know that it wasn't first done by Jeff Buckley, but by Leonard Cohen.
They probably would as Cohen wrote it

Dylan did a song on his first album called Youre No Good but it wasnt the clint ballard song that The Swinging Blue Jeans did.It was a different song entire
ly and was written by Jesse Fuller

Rod Stewart's 'Forever Young' is really Bob Dylan's 'Forever Young' dressed up a little.

The Verve's 'Bittersweet Symphony' is a cover of Adam Oldham's cover of the Stones's 'The Last Time'

I suspect Bowie's version of 'Sorrow' is better known than The Merseys version which is a cover of the original by The McCoys.

Is Ace Frehley's version of 'New York Groove' better known than Hello's version. (also a Russ Ballard song)

Led Zeppelin's 'When the Levee Breaks' was originally by Kansas Joe McCoy.
Zeppelin have also been accused of a degree of plagiarism as well.

I always thought that John Stewart had done a version of 'DayDream Believer' before The Monkees but I don't think that is right.

Sailing by Rod Stewart is actually a cover that was done by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poDjuRlaNAg Sutherland Brothers 1972 3 years before Rod made it a big hit

And then there was this one which was sampled for 'At The River' by Groove Armada http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT2ao0rcxoA

Not necessarily, a lot of people think that Alexandra Burke covered Jeff Buckley. Especially when his version was in the chart at the same time as hers. I don't particularly like the song, but after Shrek (bear in mind I was young then and still finding new music haha) I found Jeff's, NOT Cohen's, version and for a while I thought his was the original. Obviously, upon more research and broadening my knowledge, I realised Mr Buckley covered it also (along with seven hundred million other people haha).

I guess it just depends how much musical knowledge you have, and how aware you are of who writes which songs, etc.

Not all that many folk realise that China Girl by David Bowie is a cover. Iggy Pop recorded the original. Okay, Iggy Pop and Bowie fans'll know it, but a lot of casual music fans don't.

also Painter Man by Boney M was originally done by the under-rated British 60's band The Creation (Alan McGee named Creation records after them)

that pisses me off tbh, hi ho silver lining that is... now as a yardbirds fan i have huge respect for beck, but i cannot stand his version and i remember the attacks version as the one the radio played. (it has that string thing where it rises after 'obvious' , sorry dont know the technical musical term for it but youll know what i mean)

talking of the banana bints... 'venus' was mentioned, also they covered another one hit wonder from 1970, 'na na hey hey kiss him goodbye' was a cover of steam's hit from that year.

I admire Beck as a guitar player but less so as a musician.
