I see it as Mick being a mate to alfie and not sticking his nose in. He's trying to help him.

I thought this too. I think this is why they involved Mick with the fire storyline. There was definitely more too the Carter fire than is being let on imo.

I remember there being a conversation between Shirley and Linda where Linda was talking about the fire. Was there anymore? Shirley said it was Linda who made Mick choose so it could be plausible that there is more too it. I certainly think there is. Its a very random reason to explain an estrangement. There are apparently more secrets to come out..
We are supposed to see the darker side of Mick...

Shirley also said it was an accident but she didn't confirm that she caused it.

Thanks. If she was covering for someone then she would say that, I imagine?. I thought at the beginning there would be more to the fire than was being let on. Hopefully we are right.

So soon after nearly losing Linda, covering up another crime for a mate he has just met feels a bit odd. Once again he's prepared to jeopardise his family. It doesn't quite ring true for me.

I think Mick maybe feels a bit guilty that Alfie got so desperate. He wouldn't have done if they still had the pub. It's not his fault, but Mick is very sensitive.

In Ian's case, Mick told Linda the truth and made her keep it secret too, pleaded guilty to protect Ian, had the arrest made public when Cora found out her daughter was involved - all this affected his whole family. In this case, although Mick advised Alfie not to do anything rash and kept quiet about him starting the fire, he's not really directly involved, and in this instance he didn't mention it to Linda or anyone else so it can't really affect his family.
