I like Ben Price better than the other Nick Tilsleys.
I also thought Kim Metcalf improved Sam Mitchell and it was a shame they changed it back to Daniella Westbrook again. |

Kim Medcalf as Sam Mitchell, Jacqueline Jossa as Lauren Branning, Ben Hardy as Peter Beale and Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell.
I wasn't totally against Hetti Bywater as Lucy Beale either, I just think she got short shafted with lots of second rate storylines and little opportunity to shine where as Melissa Sheffield got decent material to work with. |

I was in favour of Jacqueline Jossa's Lauren, as I feel that she IS the role now.
I also liked Hetti Bywater as Lucy. She started to get really interesting and then she was sadly killed off. |

I think it became very quickly apparent that the decision to recast Lauren in Eastenders was a very good one. The old actress was by no means bad, but hadn't really put any stamp on the role and wouldn't have been able to handle the storylines that Lauren has had since then.

Amanda Clapham as Holly; far more believable and far less annoying. Weren't Max and Darren recast as well?

Janine Butcher - Charlie Brooks EE
Lauren Branning - Jacqueline Jossa EE Suzy (Sue) Branning - Maggie O'Neill EE Peggy Mitchell - Barbara Windsor EE Cindy Williams - Mimi Keene EE Peter Barlow - Chris Gascoyne CS Blanche Hunt - Maggie Jones CS David Platt - Jack P. Shepherd CS Aaron Livesy - Danny Miller ED Jack Sugden - Clive Hornby ED Donna Windsor - Verity Rushworth ED Scott Windsor - Ben Freeman ED Robert Sugden - Karl Davies ED All of the above made the character they were playing their own IMO. I think of their portrayals when the characters are mentioned. |

I'm amazed by the amount of recasts there's been in soaps.

I think Janine Butcher is the best recast you can get. I can imagine no one else play her but Charlie Brooks.

Every single recast in HO was better...
Max, Cindy and Holly Cunningham Darren Osborne Claire Devine All of them were leaps and bounds better than the previous. |

An often forgotten one is Rachel Branning EE she was played by an awful actress originally but was recast and the second one was brilliant. She had a great chemistry with Max and played the bitter ex-wife very well as well as showing a softer caring side with Bradley and Dot.

I thought Hetty as Lucy was much better than i thought then Melissa's portrayal. I was a big fan of Melissa's time as Lucy and when Lucy was announced to be returning with Hetty in place, i totally was dreading it. I was wrong. Because i found Hetty was able to show the vulnerable and soft side to Lucy and even gave some brilliant performances, especially during the whole Ian breakdown story. I was sad to see Lucy go and do miss her very much, largely due to Hetty's own interpretation of her.
Jacqueline Jossa is a million times better than the previous actress. Apart from her role in the max/stacey dvd reveal, she was a boring pointless character. But re-casting and giving it to Jacqs has made Lauren for me one of my fav characters and has had a brilliant journey over the last four years. I don't think the original actress would of done the alcoholic storyline any justice at all. I often wonder if re-casting lauren was the producers becoming aware of the original actress not being to have anything they had planned for Lauren to be done very well. |

Kim Medcalf as Sam Mitchell. Bringing Danniella back to the role was a mistake.
Melissa Bell as Lucy Robinson. The original actress was okay, but the one before Melissa was dreadful! Ben Price as Nick Tilsley. Yes the fact he looks too old is amusing but he fits the role well. Hetti Bywater as Lucy Beale. Hated the previous actress. Kate Kendall as Lauren Turner and Kip Gamblin as Brad Willis. |

Kim Metcalfe as Sam Mitchell. The de-casting was bad - sometimes the original actor is not always best.
Debra Lawrence as Pippa Ross. Many liked the original, but DL was the Pippa I grew up with, and she was always Pippa to me. Eddie Cibrian as Cole Deschanel. Ashley Hamilton originated the role, and he was awful. Eddie came in and was instantly Cole. Michala Banas as temp Libby Kennedy. I thought she looked enough liked Kym Valentine to fill the role while Kym was on sick leave. It was believable enough as a temp recast. Jacqueline Jossa as Lauren Branning. She just brought a whole new energy to the role that was sorely lacking before. Ben Hardy as Peter Beale. Charlie Brooks as Janine Butcher. She made the role her own to the point where no-one else should ever play Janine. Isabel Hodgins as Victoria Sugden. Antoinette Bryon as Natalie Nash. The previous actor didn't seem to be in the role for that long, but Antoinette suited playing Natalie much better. Belinda Emmet as Rebecca Nash. Jay Ryan as Jack Scully. Todd MacDonald as Darren Stark. I don't remember Scott Major playing Darren, so Todd was always Darren to me, and if he hadn't, Scott would never have gone on to play Lucas... |
