I have an iPad2 and have had no problems with iOS8. Not that I've ever had any real problems with my iPad 2 anyway.
Over the years I've only ever encountered a few poorly written apps, but once they are fixed, all sorted.
Did post in the mobile section re the iOS update, as some users were talking of battery usage and lagging for some more recent devices.
Not seen any of this on my iPad 2 and I do use my iPad all day for all manner of things pretty intensively.
No issues as always getting it installed OTA, went fine at 6pm launch day, with the download busy for a good half hour, obviously expected though with the whole world downloading.
I removed the contacts list on home screen though, not so relevant on an a wifi only iPad.
Not sure I like the removal of camera roll, as that's all I use, no use of albums., I use dropbox, onedrive and gdrive for that to share with all my other devices W8, old iPhone 3GS (acting like an iPod) and my Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 phone and Android tablets.
Tried a few keyboard changes, but now back using the stock keyboard, as they didn't seem to offer anything I needed. Not into the swype thing, as I'm a fast typer anyway.
I've not noticed any Safari closing tabs changes? But i use iCab as my browser, much better and more configurable.
A nice summary and explanation of some of the new features
