Home & Away 1988
BlizzardUK
20-09-2014
I have watched the first 170 episodes of Home & Away over the last few months. Anyone else remember the early days ? Really addictive. I am a bit concerned at the moment though as they have just had the singer John Farnham on doing a weird singing sequence with Sally, that would normally be a shark jumping moment like Bouncers dream. However, other than this it has been really good, can't quite work out though why Karlie seems to not care less about the fact she has left a human-being as a walking wreck of a man due to her joke.

I hear Tom leaves soon, which is a shame, as he is a good character. Best characters though have to be Lance and Martin. The crazy thing is I am now OLDER than Pippa (the actress was 30) when the first time around I was the identical age to Sally when I watched it. Scary stuff, especially when I can remember bits and bobs of the stories.

Was it in 1998 that Chloe was raped, or was that 1996?

EDIT : Sorry, I misread your comment with my answer below, I thought you said 1988 or 1996.

Chloe doesn't come in to it for quite a while, so I am presuming 1996.

Yes, it was 1996. Her rapist turned out to be the therapist that she was seeing to help her cope. It's been noted that the word therapist is actually the two words "the rapist" put together. Although, whether that was intentional or not, I don't know.

He's in it for a while yet if you're only on episode 170. He dies in episode 525 which is in 1990

Oh God. That means I am older now than Pippa was at the beginning. That's quite scary!!
She had quite a big family for 30 but it's a different era I guess.

I know, scared me too, being 10 in 1988 I was exactly Sally's age. Seeing it again for the first time in 25 years and I am 6 years OLDER than Pippa. Also bear in mind her family was all foster until she had her own baby in 1988, so the kids could be of any age. Here is another scary fact, I am now only 4 years younger than Celia, the woman I saw as the old witch when I watched it first time around, so I would have been at school the same time as her if I was my age in 1988.

@pjw1985, thanks for that, a good many episodes left then for old Tom.

@sorcha_healy27, it was repeated on Aussie TV recently so some people have recorded them from the re-runs.

So Celia was only 40 when the show started? She seemed older but I guess I was only a child at the time and it would mean Celia was 65 last year when she returned which seems about right. Of all soap families I identify with the Fletchers the most. I feel like I grew up with Sally and that house is my favourite TV set, it feels like my own house!!
