I guess with the European union trying to introduce a single market for online content it may give use some hope for the future
Don't hold your breath! I can recall it being said 10+ years ago that the EU would, almost certainly, imminently outlaw the practice whereby the various Pay Satellite TV services like Sky were allowed to limit subscriptions to just parts of Europe (GB & ROI for Sky for example).

Everyone is STILL waiting!!!

Netflix had to cut down on this abuse as it was seriously harming content creators and creative industries. People using a cheap Netflix subscription with a VPN to access desirable content only available on other premium UK platforms (Sky) could never be allowed to continue forever.
"harming", a good joke there. If Netflix can buy rights to content for use in the US, without the content companies having a fit about it, then they can feasibly do the same in the UK - that is, if it wasn't already licenced to a rip-off merchant like Sky (who I would not consider to be "premium") on an exclusive basis.

I guess it depends what you watch. If you watch mainly US drama series then US has a far far better and much more up to date content than UK.
Whereas, If you want newish movies that are currently on Sky in the UK (or sometimes not even yet on Sky but just on the likes of iTunes at vast cost!), Canada - or sometimes smaller countries like Sweden - are usually the best.

That's the problem I find with Netflix - most regions might have, for example, "Doctor Who" but not always the exact same seasons!

Don't just blame Sky! A LOT of stuff is on iTunes (and has obviously been licensed to them) which is FAR newer than things on Sky

A very interesting read outing what netflix are planning to do
http://www.techradar.com/news/televi...attle--1313213

I found this part to be amusing

"Netflix said today that when you travel abroad you will then get access to the catalogue of the country you're currently in, not from where the account was created or is being paid for. Which is kind of how the proxies work, telling Netflix's servers that they're being accessed from within a given territory."

I never watch movies on Netflix, they should split them out and change the pricepoint accordingly IMO.

Um, that was the original concept of Netflix... movies. Just because you'd rather watch TV shows, doesn't mean everyone else is the same!

I am annoyed about this news! Whilst the UK version is ok, the US has a lot more variety and a lot more TV shows and movies that I am either currently watching or want to watch.

I have Now Tv and Netflix but would rather watch the same movie on Netflix as it works better, never get picture quality decay, lip sync issues or buffering on Netflix but I do on Now TV. So I pay for Now Tv and watch Canadian movie versions, I am already giving them the money!!

Netflix Canada seem get really good stuff like this month they're getting movies like Tomorrowland and Inside Out, basically netflix Canada get a lot of movies that over here are on sky movies, which is very very overpriced.

As soon as my access to other regions is blocked, I'll be hitting the unsubscribe button. If the price increase wasn't bad enough, paying more for such a limited selection is just a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. The thought of paying up to £2 more didn't bother me so much given the extensive range of titles available in other regions but to be locked down to the UK version which to me looks like Sky's bargain bucket - filled with films that have obviously expired on their service and then snapped up by Netflix.

I guess I'll be moving to Now TV or just stop paying for streaming services completely.

I'm rather reliant in using a VPN and/or a DNS service, I have had Netflix, Amazon Prime and Now TV for years and used them when travelling on business. 7 months ago I moved out to Cyprus (EU) for a long term job and happily used the VPN/DNS solution, if it gets stopped I'm stuffed for paying for UK content which reaches the content creators.

I won't however be stuffed for watching the content for free as IPTV boxes are rife here so I stop my subs and switch to IPTV sources.

So who loses?

There will always be ways to get your legit UK content, even if you need a cheap private VPN to the UK.

By the way, legit services are also called IPTV. IPTV encompasses any TV via the Internet, legal or otherwise.

Yea seems like they have started. Cause sometimes I see UK content mixed with my USA content. And sometimes I can't go into a show information. Getting the issue on my Apple TV and I think iPhone.

Loaded up Netflix and even tho it was set as USA, it was only showing UK content, so I exited Netflix, used the app on my phone to change the region, to Canada and it gave me Canada's content, then I exited & changed the region on my phone again to the USA & it allowed me to continue watching the USA content.

So it looks like they are working their way through stopping VPN / DNS & when they do then no worries, as I have an Android TV Box with Kodi on & a Firestick in the bedroom with Kodi on. So when they completely halt the use of DNS / VPN, then I will just switch to other means to continue binge watching my favourite shows.

Hopefully the VPN/DNS services will find a work round. Hulu tried and failed to stop VPN/DNS users. It only lasted a few days and services like Unblock US and Unotelly found a way of making it work again.

A couple of years ago if I remember rightly? After a couple of days it started working again and from what the likes of Unblock US and Unotelly seemed to be saying in forums they had an idea of what Hulu was doing to stop the service from working. Whether Hulu has tried again I don't know?

Thank you for that information, hopefully they will figure it out

I had some issues earlier, all you have to do is exit out of it, change region, go back into it to accept the new settings, then come back out, set region as USA and then you should be good to watch

To check what region your n - go to settings

Language - gb/en = uk
Us/en = USA
Be/en = Belgium

Etc

I've had issues for 3+ months but then I share my account and the unblock us is also shared

Sometimes I just turn vpn off on my samsung smart tv and watch the uk one - even that has issues ie I could make 2-4 attempts to play a title - could be because the app on the smart tv is old and basic

I have noticed something interesting. If I log into my account using smart dns or 2 different vpn providers still using their uk server it doesn't display my payment details or plan details and gives an error message. Using my normal isp dns it works fine.

Anyone else?
