Who likes the lovely taste of deep fried fish and chips from the local chipshop takeaway with plenty of batter. It's my favourite dinner, more so than anything else. What do others think?

Fish and chips - the only time I like to eat fish is when it's served this way. But at £8.50 for a standard supper it's a rare treat.

I always ask for plenty of extra batter to go with the fish and chips.

Deep-fried fish and chips!

Is this some newfangled way of cooking them?

Not from my local chippy. Their fish and chips is crap. I find it increasingly difficult to find good fish and chips these days. The best are usually in sea side towns. I remember having fish and chips once by the sea in Scotland as a kid and it was probably the best thing I've ever eaten in my life!

I only get fish and chips once a month at the least as it's so expensive.

But when I do, the waiting in the queue and the smell of the fish and chips frying makes me salivate so much.

The only downside is, they never put enough salt and vinegar on.

Yes, I get fish and chips at least once a week. I tend to get the mini-fish with small chips now as that fills me up nicely. No more than £4.

they're always deep fried ?......in a deep fat fryer

how else would you cook them........

best to keep them in a different tub from the Mars bars though

I rarely get fish and chips now.........probably 5 years since the last time

Although I've been in London for decades I never got used to their fish and chips

The fish is usually OK (tho' I was horrified at first to realise that they left the skin on, now it doesn't bother me) but the chips are never very nice and they're so different from one chip shop to another that you're never quite sure what you're going to get

To be fair this was the same when I was growing up oop north........we had one chippy near us that me and my brother reckoned they put horseshit on their chips.........

We got them for tea yesterday... it is definitely a 2-3 times a year treat, but my they were lovely. Large cod, small chips and an extra cod for the cats (or they just sit on my chair and hook the fish off my plate with their claws.

Most important question is

a) salt & vinegar
b) tomato ketchup
c) mayo
d) nothing
e) something disgusting, like brown sauce.

I'd have salt, vinegar and red sauce......but only on the chips

salt and pepper on the fish

HEAPS of salt and vinegar and some ketchup on the side to dip into occasionally. Can't imagine it with mayo or brown sauce

Up to about 2 years ago, I always asked for a double portion of chips with plenty of extra batter. But I've stopped that now and I just buy one portion of chips now.

Before we start any of that, we've got to get some mushy peas and bread and butter action going.

a) absolutely
b) nah
c) what?
d) boring
e) Yes, and it ain't disgusting! Brown sauce or curry sauce, sometimes even both.
