At home, some people opt for oven-baked fish and chips under the illusion it's a "healthier" option than deep frying. It isn't, necessarily.

Cleaner and safer than deep frying though, of course.

Deep fried fish and chips tastes nicer, than oven baked fish and chips. The taste of Deep Fried is so maurish.

Is there any other way?

Does your local chippie steam them?

Jebus. Double chips! That's impressive!

I'm veggie so don't do the fish but my local chip shop, the portions of chips are big enough to feed at least four people.

It's extremely rare for me to go the chip shop. But of my friends are around we sometimes grap a take away and usually get one portion of chips between three/four and still leave a load.

The great thing about Fish and Chips is the very high energy they give you .

Before a 12hr night shift, some Fish and Chips will make you ready to fight Tigers

I read very few of them, I look at the first post mostly then realise it's not worth participating in.

More fish and less batter would be more to my liking but as the price of fish went up so did the amount of batter ... same size, less fish.

I'm surprised it costs that much 'up the road' but yes the last time I bought fish and chips from a good quality shop in NW London it was £28 for 3 people ... I thought that a bit steep and that was about 5 years ago.

and with mushy peas, and a cold vimto from the fridge. You can't beat it.

My local chippy has been flogged to an Eastern European family and the girl behind the counter asking me if I would like a battered sausage is beautiful in the extreme.

As opposed to SHALLOW fry?
Why use the words DEEP FRIED? That's how they are cooked.

Because i love to see the oil and fat cooking and the smell of the oil or fat cooking, with the smell of the fish and chips frying is fantastic.

I live in a city on the sea, I watch those fish GO IN the batter and then go in the fryer, shortish period of time. I see the chips go in the fryer, I watch the impressive and friendly girl sort the order, and it is ALL cooked to order.

And I pay for it - and it's worth it.

I have fish and chips regularly, about once a month, and it is bloody BEAUTIFUL.

My favourite place for buying fish and chips is a small seaside resort up in North Nothumberland called Seahouses beside a coastal harbour, where fishboats arrive and depart every day, weather permitting and the fresh fish are delivered to a local fish and chip shop/cafe on the day of arrival in the harbour for on the day of cooking and it's absolute perfection.
