Now, just to clarify - I post this thread as an absolute fan of Dermot's I think he's the perfect fit for the show. He's probably the best solo TV presenter on the box too, so that's always good for the show. But...

Aside from the general format and judging panel, what else would make a huge difference? A new presenter. I'm not sure if I'd actually welcome an exit from Dermot; it was just a kind of hypothetical 'what if' idea. I mean, in the past four years, so many plans and changes have been implemented in an attempt to 'freshen' things up. New judges, new stages (4 Chair Challenge) - But the presenter has always remained the same. When you think about it, it's surprising he wasn't switched at some stage. Dermot is the face of X Factor. When they were desperate (2012-13 period) to change the collective image of the show, surely a new presenter would be a good starting place? I don't know.

Who do we think could take over? I've always thought Emma Willis would be ideal. Obviously, the BBC got there first, didn't they? That rules her out. She would've been great though.

I imagine it's probably an unpopular choice on here, but I'd be happy with Caroline. She'd do well, as would Olly. In fact, bringing them both back would be an interesting prospect. I think the show could work with two presenters, it's something I'd like to see in the future, definitely.

Any thoughts? I'd just be interested to hear the suggestions, really.

Flack and Murs - horrible thought.

And I like Dermot - getting rid of him would be a mistake.

Yeah Emma Willis would be ideal, never really heard anyone say anything bad about her. Weird for a female presenter.

I love Dermot and dont think he is going any where in the near future. But if he did I think
Laura Whitemore or
Steve Jones would fill his boots perfectly

Steve Jones, the guy that was fired for being one of the worst presenters on X Factor ever?

Steve was wooden compared to Dermot

I can't see Dermot being replaced, he's been the host since 2007 and is as much part of the furniture as Louis is. When they bring different changes it's nice to have some familiarity still there.

I had to laugh at imagining Caroline coming out, doing a spin and saying 'Your Saturday night starts right here'

Just check out the BB thread here on DS, Emma gets masses of criticism there, some justified, some not. Personally, I don't think the X Factor is the right place for her, besides where would she fit it into her schedule?

Edit: Just spotted post #5. Whilst on I will add I find it strange to think that anyone who appears on TV would never have a bad word said about them

I liked Dermot on BB but have never taken to him on X-Factor.

I preferred Kate Thornton and personally I think that it requires a female presenter.

Paddy McGuinness would be pretty interesting as a presenter or Vernon Kay.

IMO Dermot will only leave if he himself decides to Leave i just cant see them even thinking for a second of changing presenters & if he should decide to leave no ideas myself

She will probably be lined up to present The Voice next year. Can't see her being asked to present X-Factor as well.

I like Dermot and I don't want him replaced by anyone else

Yeah if Dermot were to go then they'd be the perfect match for the show, they host the biggest breakfast show in London, are fairly known names in the entire country, have the looks, the charisma, they're perfect. Plus Simon would love the promotion on Capital FM fir the show and his acts

Stephen Mulhern? I think he's funny and doesn't take himself too seriously. He also has a good rapport with Simon.
