Windows 8.1, 8 inch Tablets. Are they any good?

After consideration, we (my son and I) have decided that while the Venue 8 Pro is a cracking bit of kit, it won't be suitable for him ....

Reasoning is performance. Whilst it would be fine for videos, being slower than his i3 laptop would make it kinda awkward for some of his games (currently mainly minecraft, but expect others to come along).

Now, the Venue 11 Pro, with either an i3 or i5 and a 1920x1080 screen is very, very tempting.

I wouldnt expect that just because something has an i5 that it will be a good gaming machine especially with poor cooling and a low end integrated GPU, particularly pushing stuff at 1080P.

We aren't talking about serious gaming (currently minecraft); he's currently got an i3 laptop with an embedded GPU thats a bit naff, and from what I've seen the quad core atoms are actually slower than his i3.
