I find iOS8 fine on my 4S. It's certainly nothing like the fiasco that was iOS4 on the iPhone 3G. I imagine this'll be the last year the 4S is supported by Apple, and given I'll have had it for 4 years by the time iOS9 drops I think I'm OK with that. I'd rather take the slight performance hit and benefit from iOS8 features (Notification Centre widgets is a big one for me).

Incidentally, I am having some copy/paste issues in iOS8, in that copying text to the clapboard frequently doesn't work. Hopefully there'll be a bug fix in the next patch release.”

Not figured out the YouTube workaround yet.

I tried to download the update – but the download failed.

The process messed my IPAD mini up (apps and safari crashing/couldn’t access photos/video etc) – so I did a hard reset (Home/on button) and it seems fine now.

I may have had a lucky escape by the sound of it. Lesson learned – don’t update until you have to!

It's the worst update yet IMO almost windows like with constant freezing and the inability to load up some of my favourite websites. In all my years of being with Apple I've never encountered so many issues.

Apple likely expect websites to be rewritten. Microsoft are spoofing mobile safari to make their web browser work.

On the face of it, it sounds like IE all over again but this time Microsoft may just have to keep rewriting IE to match Safari's mobile non standard US stuff. Google and maybe even Apple spent millions emulating IE correctly to get Chrome/Safari standardisation into being, something Opera, Firefox users benefited from.

But maybe this is just another move to promote native app development via the App Store for the more demanding web sites. There is already limited memory available to Safari, acknowledged by the closed frozen tab strategy..

I stupidly (will I never learn after the last time?) updated to IOS 8.0.2, because I read that it should fix previous bugs. My iPad on Safari was always freezing and crashing. So I updated.

I could cry!

Now, I am unable to copy and paste text, absolutely HATE the 'disappearing' bar at the top of the screen, everything is slow and unresponsive and I get a white screen, like waiting to load, never had that ever.

I had a horrid predictive text keyboard appear that drove me nuts, it made me watch it all the time, somehow - thankfully - that has disappeared (without me doing anything, another mystery). I also sometimes type something and it doesn't show up until ages after. Never had any of these problems before, in fact they were trivial in comparison - the worst one is not being able to c&p, a feature I use a lot.

I now have so many bugs, it makes me sick to think that I was stupid enough to fall for it again.

Funnily enough I have almost no bugs now with my iPad Air on IOS 8.0.2 - and I have grown to really like the disappearing bar! I have somethings like 25 Safari tabs in use - and they all seem to work just fine!

You can elect NOT to use the predictive text keyboard!

That's the odd thing, I didn't deselect it, it just went 'by itself'!

I also hate the blue loading line in the browser bar, where at the same time my screen goes white and it looks like nothing is happening for ages.

Also noticed that when I type a comment on DS, sometimes - not always - the keyboard entirely covers the typing space!

I could go on.....

The "small blue bar" at the top of the keyboard turns predictive text on or off by swiping it up or down. You may have done it by accident - I did once and wondered how to get it back!

I must be more adaptable - I now seem to have got used to the changes and nothing much annoys me about them. I am still hoping that IOS 8.1 on Monday improves things further!

It's possible that I did that, yes.

Are you saying there's another update on Monday? And if so, is it to resolve bugs from the previous update?

There will be another update on Monday to IOS 8.1

This adds some functionality BUT is also expected to fix many of the current set of bugs. Most commentators had been expecting that there would have been an 8.0.3 release to do this - but it seems to have all been been rolled into 8.1

Here's hoping! Even though I have mostly got used to the changes I have a WiFi bug which I want solved!

Many thanks, BKM, you have lifted my gloom and I look forward to Monday. Glad it's mostly working fine for you, and I hope your bug is sorted out too.

Whats the concensus on iOs 8.1 on older devices? Runs fine on my 5, possibly a touch smoother an 8.0, but not keen to install it on my iPad 3 as theres is no going back now!

Works ok but there is no option to select 2G, 3G or 4G only as it says there is. Also the safari hasn't been fixed when trying to use some websites it clicks back to the previous page when filling out a form on the iPad Air an example is logging into Clydesdale Bank online Banking once you put your username in and click on the first box to put in the 1st letter from the password it takes you to a logged out page unless you click on the box then slide your finger up the screen a bit and then it doesn't. Not sure if this is a touch screen issue?

Just installed on iPad 2. At first there was no response from Safari, but after a Reset, it seems to be OK. Scrolling seems to be better - with no lagging (so far)

EDIT: I take that back - there are still areas of grey screen caused by lagging

I had to reboot my Apple iPad 2 as it was even slower after downloading the software this evening, but after trying to reboot my iPad 2 just seems dead as the Apple symbol is still on the screen and is still there after 20 minutes and nothing seems to be able to get it out of that mode. Has anyone any advice?
Ian.

I had that too. But after switching off and on it came back to life.

I have tried switching it off and on again and after trying about eight times doing that, it has come back to life. I'm quite relieved.

Yes thanks! Safari on 8.1 with a 5GHz network connection seems just fine so far! No nasty hangs!

I've received notification of another update today.

My ipad has been terribly slow since the previous update, does anyone know if this latest one will fix the problem ?

As others have said, I really didn't expect problems like this with Apple. I didn't mind paying the premium for them holding my hand, while I trotted along trustingly, happy in the knowledge that everything would work seamlessly.
Now it's destroyed my confidence, I can't trust them anymore. If you're happy and it's working, leave it alone..that appears to be the best advice. Otherwise, wait until you can't find any more complaints from other users, then take your chances and keep your fingers crossed.

I sadly updated, didn't expect such problems. It's slow, buggy and it cannot stay connected to wifi for more than 5 seconds. It's awful. I wish I hadn't updated and it makes me think twice about getting an iPhone now.

My iPad 2 will be staying on 7 I've had to fill it up with stuff to stop that iOS8 virus being downloaded on to it.

I've used Apple products for years.

My iPad 3 is exceptionally sluggish now. So much so that I've give it to my daughter and I bought a Hudl 2 for myself. So far very impressed.

When I automatically updated my iPad 2 to iOS8 it was BRUTALLY slow and lagging to the extent it was almost unusable. After much research I found the reason for this was continual software updates on top of the previous ones does have this effect. Especially on a 3 year old iPad 2.

The solution? A clean install of iOS8. I'm now typing from my iPad 2 with no lag, no delay, and a much smoother running machine like it was on iOS7.
