I think it was a bad idea to get rid of them. It's a youth soap. If people don't want that, they can easily watch one of the other soaps.
At what point did they get rid of the 'babes' and 'hunks' calenders? That element used to be a lot more pronounced; Dodger and Theresa are very much relics from that 'time'.
