Where has Sharon Watts gone?
I loved the scene where she declared she was Sharon Watts and loved it when she was taking steps to get revenge on Phil.
But now they have her back to her whimpering worst! I enjoyed the scenes last night between Sharon, Shirley and Linda but I think they could have given Sharon some better lines to put Shirley in her place! Shirley seemed to get the upper hand in that spat, which had it been old Sharon, she would have put Shirley in her place! |

Pete Lawson has written the episode and he's a big fan of Shirley so I'm not surprised Shirley has won against Sharon.
I know I'm disappointed about "Sharon Watts". I was looking forward to "Sharon Watts" back :/ - she didn't even succeed against Phil

I didn't like Sharon last night. The bitchiness and catty comments don't suit her, and the feud with Shirley is tedious.
It's annoying because Sharon can be fantastic in one episode, and then it's all undone the next. |

Ever since her 2012 return the writing has been wrong, the current writers just don't know Sharon. She has been portrayed as very bitchy and unlikable since her return and I'm not surprised the character is so unpopular with younger viewers. If 2012 to present was the first id seen of the character I'd probably not like Sharon either.

Sharon did have some good lines the "nice boots for a hooker" line was priceless.
This was the most entertaining their feuding has ever been. They were pretty much even in the trading of barbed insults. The only thing that signifies a Shirley win is Sharon throwing the wine over her mate but the whole scene was played for comedy and I'm sure it was great fun to film. Shirley is also a strong character and also has the physical nous to back up what she's saying. Why would she let Sharon walk all over her, Sharon can't win an argument against everyone. She pretty much bitched and feuded her way around the square for most of last year. |

So much for DTC loving Letitia/Sharon, he's failed massively in reincarnating his girl after all the big up!!
![]() And where's Denny all this time?? It's just so unrealistic not to have the kid appears from time to time esp in scenes where mother and daughter should be together or in any other scenes for that matter. |

I totally agree OP. Sharon's place in this era of EE is to be the shallow 'shoulder pad' obsessed with weddings and fripperies; the glitzy impediment to the 'true love' of Phirley. The occasional bone will be thrown to her old school fans but ultimately the character is a shadow of her former self.
What annoys me is that they could have done their love triangle but had Sharon play her part in it as a grieving woman settling for something but that wouldn't elevate Phirley as much. |

Shirley started the argument. I know you despise Sharon but be fair!
Despise her...no. I just think she's a bit of a joke. And then there's the acting..... |

Oh yes...the shoulder pads remark. Shirley was out of order, but I was just saying that she could hardly be expected to put up with being called a prostitute, she was bound to take it further.

Yes! She's having an affair with Phil behind Sharon's back. She's plotting against Sharon with Phil. She knew about the attack on Sharon arranged by Phil. She's evil and Sharon should lord it over her!
She didn't know about the attack in advance and Phil certainly didn't plan for Sharon to be hurt...he was devastated. Sharon will always lord it over Shirley and pretty much everyone else in the square...it's in her nature to think she is better than anyone else.

I'm glad Sharon lords it over people because she thinks she's better than anyone else because, well, that's because she is! |

Terms like 'evil' get bandied about on here far too much. If we use the term evil for someone emotionally screwed because of an abhorrent childhood, who hasn't killed/raped anyone, then how would we describe actual murderers and rapists? It's disproportionate to what Shirley has actually done. She is actually one of a long line of mothers who abandoned their kids on the show.

Shirley can do no wrong as far as some people are concerned. She's not my idea of an endearing character but if that's your thing then more power to you. Unluckily for those who see Shirley as a flawed angel her vile behaviour is on show in each and every episode to remind us that she is indeed a bullying piece of shit.
Now as for that scene on the balcony, it was a comedy scene. I don't know why people are taking it so seriously. It reminded me of the old school slanging matches between Pauline and Peggy. Sharon is a campy character so she's supposed to have these type of scenes every now and then such as the the time she slapped Peggy for insulting Angie. Shirley is taken way too seriously by some people likely because it's an uphill struggle to defend her. At least she and Sharon were on equal footing for the most part in last night's episode rather than Shirley verbally assaulting Sharon and her not doing anything about it. |

Shirley spotted them on the balcony and started the bitching, even coming over and walking into the Albert to continue it. Sharon didn't start this, however much you hate her and want to see the worst in everything. |

What I would love to see is a really dramatic scene between these two. Say, IF Phil is the one that gets shot, it would be great to have a two-handed episode between Sharon and Shirley about their relationship with Phil, and their feelings towards each other. No camp, just pure drama! EastEnders is normally good at doing these two handers and I think these actresses could really step up to the plate and deliver! And the outcome should be a hostile truce, and they should continue to have a Pat/ Peggy relationship! |

I really like Sharon, I agree with your post a little bit, and the way they've made her quite wimpy again, but what we have to remember is that Sharon does have a heart, and a softer side, she will prove this in Thursday's episode when she gives Ben a chance! I understand Sharon may not be completely back to her former glory, but the character 2012-2013 was just a heartless and boring bitch, this year I've loved Sharon! There's some bloody boring and dull characters in the EastEnders cast right now, and Sharon is by far one of the better cast members! I've enjoyed what they've done with her this year! She has been 10x more interesting! And has been given some really meaty storylines! I agree they gave Shirley the upper hand though! Then again, I like Shirley so it's hard to decide who's side to take
