Mick Carter!
EE like to go with a less obvious suspect and I don't think I've heard anyone suggest it could be Mick.
Reasons:
1) Danny Dyer's not the sort I can imagine sticking around somewhere like EastEnders for a huge amount of time with the amount of other projects he has going on. It'd be the perfect way to write him out considering he's not the type to abandon his family and this way they coul bring him back.
2) Why was Mick SO concerned about protecting Ian? He went to great lengths to help Ian cover up his shame, even to the extent of letting his neighbours think he, himself was some sort of seedy pervert. Why do that for a bloke he'd known less than half a year?
3) When Lee mumbled Lucy's name in a drunken rambling, Mick was horrified. Why? Surely, as Lee was going out with Lucy at the time and maybe felt a bit guilty for the way he treated her, it's probably natural that it'd be on his mind. If that was my son in that situation, I wouldn't think much of it but Mick was genuinely terrified. He clearly thought that Lee saw Mick commit the crime.
Here's how I think it went down:
Jay and Ben had just robbed the shop and Lucy saw them from a distance. She argued with them and was threatening to call the police, they pushed her over or something and stole her phone to prevent this. Hence the fact they had her phone. Mick then saw this happening and rushed to Lucy's aid, chasing off Ben and Jay but because Lucy was so off her face on cocaine, she mistook Mick for somebody giving her the come on and flipped, trying to attack him. Mick then picked something up in self defence and whacked her with it or pushed her to the ground knocking her out. He then moved the body to the woods so it wouldn't be found till the morning, giving him enough time to get away without being seen. Since then, Mick has been wracked with guilt so has tried to make it up to Ian the best he can.
